Predictors of hyporesponsiveness to erythropoiesis-stimulating agents in patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (RADIANCE-CKD Study)
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that existing risk factors and serum test items can be used to predict ESA resistance in patients with non-dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease on ESA.PMID:37793365 | DOI:10.1159/000534438 (Source: American Journal of Nephrology)

Prognostic Impact of Serum Homocysteine-Lowering Therapy on Patients with Hemorrhagic Stroke and Its Influence on National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and China Stroke Scale Scores
CONCLUSIONS: High-dose folic acid, methylcobalamin, and vitamin B6 as part of serum homocysteine-lowering therapy can improve oxidative stress and vascular endothelial function in HS patients. This treatment also enhances prognosis and ameliorates neurological deficits. Therefore, it holds significant clinical potential and should be considered for broader adoption.PMID:37793337 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)

Intake of ultra-processed food, dietary diversity and the risk of nutritional inadequacy among adults in India
CONCLUSION: Reformulating ultra-processed food to reduce fat, sugar, and salt, increase micronutrients and behaviour change communication strategies that promote dietary diversity will improve micronutrient adequacy and diet quality.PMID:37781767 | DOI:10.1017/S1368980023002112 (Source: Public Health Nutrition)

Stereoselective Biocatalytic α-Deuteration of L-Amino Acids by a Pyridoxal 5'-Phosphate Dependent Mannich Cyclase
Chembiochem. 2023 Oct 1:e202300561. doi: 10.1002/cbic.202300561. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTα-Deuterated amino acids are valuable building blocks for developing deuterated drugs, and are important tools for studying biological systems. Biocatalytic deuteration represent an attractive strategy to directly access enantiopure α-deuterated amino acids. Here, we show that a PLP-dependent Mannich cyclase, LolT, involved in the biosynthesis of loline alkaloids, is capable of deuterating a diverse range of L-amino acids, including basic and acidic, nonpolar and polar, aliphatic and aromatic amino acids. Furthermore, complete ...

Element and Water-Soluble Vitamins Profile of Rhus coriaria L. (Sumac) Grown in Different Regions
In this study, the amounts of some elements and water-soluble vitamins in Rhus coriaria L. (Sumac) samples grown in different regions were analyzed by ICP-OES and HPLC, respectively. The maximum amount of Na, K, Mg, and P was determined in the sumac samples of Kadana, Sheladize, Maraş, and Derishke regions, respectively. The richest regions in terms of trace elements such as Zn, Cu, Fe, Se, Mn, Cr, Mo, Ni, and B were Charput, Derishke, Ranya, Charput, Ranya, Derishke, Elazığ, Derishke, and Kadana, respectively. The highest amount of As, Cd, Pb, and Hg in sumac samples were determined in Kadana, Kadana, Trawanish, and Ch...

Modulation of wheatgrass ( < em > Triticum aestivum Linn < /em > ) toxicity against breast cancer cell lines by simulated microgravity
This study scrutinizes the effects of simulated microgravity on the antioxidant and cytotoxic potential, along with the phytochemical content of wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum Linn). To imitate microgravity, wheatgrass seeds were germinated in a 3D-clinostat at different rotations per minute (5, 10, 15, and 20 rpm), together with terrestrial gravity control, over 10 days. After germination, the methanolic extracts were analyzed using UPLC-Triple Quad LCMS for their phytochemical composition and tested for their hydrogen peroxide, nitric oxide, and DPPH scavenging activities. The cytotoxic effects of these extracts were eval...
