Association between dietary macronutrient composition and plasma one-carbon metabolites and B-vitamin cofactors in patients with stable angina pectoris
In conclusion, a higher protein intake, and replacing saturated with mono- and polyunsaturated fatty acids, was associated with a more favourable metabolic phenotype regarding metabolites associated with CVD risk.PMID:38361451 | DOI:10.1017/S0007114524000473 (Source: The British Journal of Nutrition)

Circulating micronutrient levels and their association with sepsis susceptibility and severity: a Mendelian randomization study
Conclusion: Our study highlighted that zinc may emerges as a potential protective factor against severe sepsis-related death within 28 days, providing theoretical support for supplementing zinc in high-risk critically ill sepsis patients. In the future, larger-scale data are needed to validate our findings. (Source: Frontiers in Genetics)

PGAP2-Related Hyperphosphatasia-Mental Retardation Syndrome: Report of a Novel Patient, Toward a Broadening of Phenotypic Spectrum and Therapeutic Perspectives
We present the clinical, neuroradiological, and genetic characterization of a Caucasian pediatric subject with biallelic pathogenic variants in the PGAP2 gene revealed by next generation sequencing analysis. We identified a subject who presented with global developmental delay and visual impairment. Brain magnetic resonance imaging showed mild hypoplasia of the inferior cerebellar vermis and corpus callosum and mild white matter reduction. Laboratory investigations detected an increase in alkaline phosphatase. At the age of 13 months, he began to present epileptic focal seizures with impaired awareness, which did not respon...

Utility and limitations of EEG in the diagnosis and management of ALDH7A1-related pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy. A retrospective observational study
ConclusionA neonatal burst suppression EEG pattern should raise the suspicion of PDE-ALDH7A1. Respiratory distress is common; isolated apnoeic seizures may contribute. EEG responses during pyridoxine trials are diverse, often with poor correlation to immediate clinical effect. Reliance on single trials may lead to under-recognition of this treatable condition. Pyridoxine should be continued until results from biomarkers and genetic testing are available. (Source: Frontiers in Neurology)

Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy and its Management with the Dual-Release Formulation of Doxylamine and Pyridoxine
Geburtshilfe Frauenheilkd. 2024 Feb 8;84(2):144-152. doi: 10.1055/a-2225-5883. eCollection 2024 Feb.ABSTRACTNausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP) is among the most common conditions that pregnant women encounter in the early stages of pregnancy. It can affect up to 85% of pregnant women, thus representing a significant public health concern. NVP results in substantial negative physical, emotional, and financial consequences. Despite its prevalence, the pathogenesis remains elusive. Few guidelines have been published; however, several interventions exist for the symptomatic treatment of NVP. The aim of this review is to pr...
