Over-the-Counter Medications in Pregnancy
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Oct;108(4):360-369.ABSTRACTHigh-quality research on the safety and effectiveness of over-the-counter medications in pregnancy is limited. Physicians should explore nonpharmacologic treatments before recommending medication. For nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), H1 antihistamines, and ginger are safe and effective. Physicians can recommend calcium carbonate, H2 antihistamines, and proton pump inhibitors for gastroesophageal reflux disease. Osmotic laxatives, fiber preparations, and probiotics are safe and effective treatments for constipation. Many over-the-counter topical med...

Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 7044: Comparative Study of Augmented Classical Least Squares Models for UV Assay of Co-Formulated Antiemetics Together with Related Impurities
E. Draz The classical least squares (CLS) model and three augmented CLS models are adopted and validated for the analysis of pyridoxine HCl (PYR), cyclizine HCl (CYC), and meclizine HCl (MEC) in a quinary mixture with two related impurities: the CYC main impurity, Benzhydrol (BEH), which has carcinogenic and hepatotoxic effects, and the MEC official impurity, 4-Chlorobenzophenone (BEP). The proposed augmented CLS models are orthogonal signal correction CLS (OSC-CLS), direct orthogonal signal correction CLS (DOSC-CLS), and net analyte processing CLS (NAP-CLS). These models were applied to quantify the three active const...

The efficiency of cabergoline versus pyridoxine for lactation inhibition – a randomized controlled trial
Some mothers may seek lactation inhibition on personal, social, or medical grounds. The common drug used for lactation inhibition is cabergoline. Several adverse effects and contraindications are known for this drug. Its use is contraindicated for patients with hypertensive disorders and fibrotic, cardiac, or hepatic diseases. Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) has also been used for this indication, with no significant adverse effects, following studies that demonstrated its efficacy. Longitudinal metabolomics integrated with machine learning identifies novel biomarkers of gestational diabetes mellitus
CONCLUSION: We identified and characterized distinct patterns of metabolites associated with GDM throughout pregnancy, and found that allantoic acid was a potential biomarker for early diagnosis of GDM.PMID:37806596 | DOI:10.1016/j.freeradbiomed.2023.10.014 (Source: Free Radical Biology and Medicine)

Prognostic Impact of Serum Homocysteine-Lowering Therapy on Patients with Hemorrhagic Stroke and Its Influence on National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale and China Stroke Scale Scores
CONCLUSIONS: High-dose folic acid, methylcobalamin, and vitamin B6 as part of serum homocysteine-lowering therapy can improve oxidative stress and vascular endothelial function in HS patients. This treatment also enhances prognosis and ameliorates neurological deficits. Therefore, it holds significant clinical potential and should be considered for broader adoption.PMID:37793337 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
