Conquering homocystinuria with engineered probiotics
Cell Host Microbe. 2024 Mar 13;32(3):298-300. doi: 10.1016/j.chom.2024.02.008.ABSTRACTPyridoxine-unresponsive homocystinuria has lifelong implications for health. In this issue, Perreault and colleagues present evidence that orally delivered engineered probiotic Escherichia Coli Nissle SYNB1353 is a promising candidate in reducing homocysteine, with successful trials in mice, monkeys, and humans. However, further probiotic optimization and safety assessments are required.PMID:38484708 | DOI:10.1016/j.chom.2024.02.008 (Source: Cell Host and Microbe)

One-Carbon Metabolism Nutrients, Genetic Variation, and Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Metab J. 2024 Mar 12. doi: 10.4093/dmj.2023.0272. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetes mellitus (DM) affects about 9.3% of the population globally. Hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) has been implicated in the pathogenesis of DM, owing to its promotion of oxidative stress, β-cell dysfunction, and insulin resistance. HHcy can result from low status of one-carbon metabolism (OCM) nutrients (e.g., folate, choline, betaine, vitamin B6, B12), which work together to degrade homocysteine by methylation. The etiology of HHcy may also involve genetic variation encoding key enzymes in OCM. This review aimed to provide an overvi...

Vitamin C for Patients Hospitalized With COVID-19 —Reply
In Reply Dr McKenzie and colleagues raise concerns regarding the safety of bundling thiamine with other vitamins into a product primarily prescribed for thiamine replacement in patients with or at risk of alcohol withdrawal. This formulation consists of 2 ampules (thiamine, riboflavin, and pyridoxine in ampule 1; ascorbic acid, nicotinamide, and glucose in ampule 2) that are intended to be diluted together in normal saline or 5% dextrose and infused. We are aware of a similar bundled injectable vitamin solution in other countries. (Source: JAMA)

Clinical Efficacy of Sodium Cantharidate Vitamin B6 Combined with Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy in the Treatment of Local Advanced Cervical Cancer and its Influence on Tumor Markers
CONCLUSIONS: Sodium cantharidate vitamin B6 combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of local advanced cervical cancer can not only effectively enhance the autoimmune function, downregulate the level of tumor markers, and improve the quality of patient life, but also cause relatively few adverse reactions.PMID:38466067 (Source: Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine)
