Genes, Vol. 15, Pages 532: Resistome, Virulome, and Clonal Variation in Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in Healthy Swine Populations: A Cross-Sectional Study
Patricia Poeta This cross-sectional study investigates the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA): its prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular characteristics in healthy swine populations in central Portugal. A total of 213 samples were collected from pigs on twelve farms, and MRSA prevalence was assessed using selective agar plates and confirmed via molecular methods. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing and whole genome sequencing (WGS) were performed to characterize resistance profiles and genetic determinants. Among the 107 MRSA-positive samples (83.1% prevalence), fattening pigs and breed...

Detoxification of tetracycline and synthetic dyes by a newly characterized Lentinula edodes laccase, and safety assessment using proteomic analysis
This study showed that the extracellular fungal laccase from L. edodes could effectively degrade tetracycline (TET) and the synthetic dye Acid Green 25 (AG). The growth inhibition of Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis by TET revealed that the antimicrobial activity was significantly reduced after treatment with the laccase-HBT system. 16 transformation products of TET were identified by UPLC-MS-TOF during the laccase-HBT oxidation process. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis revealed that LeLac12 could completely mineralize ring-cleavage products. LeLac12 completely catalyzed 50 mg/L TET within 4 h by...

Environ Res. 2024 Apr 16:118957. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.118957. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIn the current investigation, MnFe2O4/ZIF-8 nanocomposite was generated as a magnetic nanoadsorber using the extract of Dracocephalum plant and characterized by XRD, FTIR, VSM, BET, FESEM, EDS-mapping, TEM, XPS, TPD-NH3, and TGA analyses. Also, to determine its efficiency in the adsorption process of tetracycline, the effect of pH (3-9), nanocomposite dose (0.025-2 g/L), initial pollutant concentration (5-100 mg/L), contact time (5-200 min), and temperature (5-50 °C) were studied. The results of the morphological properties o...

Enhanced visible light photo ‐Fenton catalysis by Fe‐doping oligo‐layer natural molybdenite with efficient carrier spatial‐driven Fe3+/Fe2+ cycle
This study serves as a crucial reference for the advancement of photo-Fenton catalysts based on molybdenite in the treatment of organic wastewater. AbstractDeveloping cost-effective and efficient photo-Fenton catalysts is crucial for advancing photo-Fenton technology. MoS2 is a representative transition metal disulfide with attractive photoresponsiveness, making it ideal for preparing composite photo-Fenton catalysts. In this study, natural molybdenite was innovatively utilized as a source of MoS2 (OM) to synthesize a low-cost and efficient Fe@MoS2 (OMF) composite photo-Fenton catalyst by comminution and adsorption, which ...
