Preparation of highly adsorptive biochar by sequential iron impregnation under refluxing and pyrolysis at low temperature for removal of tetracycline
Environ Pollut. 2024 Mar 29:123886. doi: 10.1016/j.envpol.2024.123886. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIron-doping modification is a prevailing approach for improving adsorption capability of biochar with environmental friendliness, but usually requires high temperature and suffers from iron aggregation. Herein, a highly adsorptive biochar was manufactured via sequential disperse impregnation of iron by refluxing and pyrolysis at low temperature for eliminating tetracycline (TC) from aqueous solution. Iron oxides and hydroxides were impregnated and stably dispersed on the carbon matrix as pyrolyzed at 200 °C, meanwhile abun...

Decrypting the multi-genome data for chimeric vaccine designing against the antibiotic resistant Yersinia pestis
In this study, vaccinomics-assisted immunoinformatics techniques were used to find possible vaccine candidates by utilizing the core proteome prepared from 58 complete genomes of Y. pestis. Human non-homologous, pathogen-essential, virulent, and extracellular and membrane proteins are potential vaccine targets. Two antigenic proteins were prioritized for the prediction of lead epitopes by utilizing reverse vaccinology approaches. Four vaccine designs were formulated using the selected B- and T-cell epitopes coupled with appropriate linkers and adjuvant sequences capable of inducing potent immune responses. The HLA allele p...

Lateral flow assemblies and allied application of carbon quantum dots derived from cigarette tobacco in biosensing, anticounterfeiting and fluorescent films: Theoretical and experimental overview
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 28:141812. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141812. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe bio-sensing activity of fluorescence based nanoprobes is one of the most significant aspects to scrutinize the analytical pursuance in modern security and lateral flow assays. Herein, potent transmogrification of waste cigarette tobacco into fluorescent carbon quantum dots (CQDs) has been achieved by calcination approach. The waste transformation to CQDs holds diverse benefits, comprising high quantum yield, low toxicity and scale up synthesis. The developed CQDs were able to identify tetracycline with phenomenal sele...

Hollow Cu2 ‐xS@NiFe Layered Double Hydroxide Core–Shell S‐Scheme Heterojunctions with Broad‐Spectrum Response and Enhanced Photothermal‐Photocatalytic Performance
In this study, Cu2-xS@NiFe-LDH hollow nanoboxes with core –shell structure are successfully prepared. The results show that Cu2-xS@NiFe-LDH with broad-spectrum response has good photothermal and photocatalytic activity, and the photocatalytic activity and stability of the catalyst are enhanced by the establishment of unique hollow structure and core –shell heterojunction structure. Transient PL spectra (TRPL) indicates that constructing Cu2-xS@NiFe-LDH heterojunction can prolong carrier lifetime obviously. Cu2-xS@NiFe-LDH shows a high photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency (5176.93  µmol h−1 g−1), and te...

Three-dimensional donor-acceptor conjugated porous polymers based on metal-porphyrin and triazine for highly effective photodegradation of organic pollutants in water
Chemosphere. 2024 Mar 27;355:141801. doi: 10.1016/j.chemosphere.2024.141801. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThree-dimensional donor-acceptor (D-A) type conjugated porous polymers (CPPs) was designed and synthesized via imine condensation of copper tetraaminoporphyrin (CuTAPP) as donor and 1,3,5-tris-(4-formyl phenyl) triazine (TFPT) as acceptor, named as CuPT-CPP. The CuPT-CPP possesses a high specific surface area (73.7 m2/g) and excellent photophysical properties. The simultaneous introduction of the organometallic molecules and D-A structures in CuPT-CPP could be broadened the visible-light response range (400-800 nm) an...

Novel insights into the co-selection of metal-driven antibiotic resistance in bacteria: a study of arsenic and antibiotic co-exposure
This study explored how exposure to both arsenic and antibiotics affects the ability of an arsenite oxidizer, Achromobacter xylosoxidans CAW4, to transform arsenite and its antibiotic resistance patterns. The bacterium was isolated from arsenic-contaminated groundwater in the Chandpur district of Bangladesh. We determined the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of arsenite, cefotaxime, and tetracycline for A. xylosoxidans CAW4, demonstrating a multidrug resistance (MDR) trait. Following this determination, we aimed to mimic an environment where A. xylosoxidans CAW4 was exposed to both arsenite and antibiotics. We enable...
