Hypoxia-induced TRPM7 Promotes Glycolytic Metabolism and Progression in Hepatocellular Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: TRPM7 was directly transcriptionally regulated by HIF-1α, leading to glycolytic metabolic reprogramming and the promotion of HCC proliferation and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Our findings suggest that TRPM7 might be a potential diagnostic indicator and therapeutic target for HCC.PMID:38677534 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejphar.2024.176601 (Source: European Journal of Pharmacology)

High stability and selectivity of butterfly pea flower extract-NiAl LDH-based catalysts in the tetracycline degradation
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2024 Apr 27. doi: 10.1007/s11356-024-33445-0. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLayered double hydroxide (LDH) is an applicable material that can be modified in various ways. Modifications using natural extracts fulfill the principles of "green chemistry." The preparation of butterfly pea flower extract (BPE)-modified NiAl LDH was completed using the calcination and restacking method. The characteristics of the prepared composites were identified through analysis of functional groups, crystal phase, bandgap energy, surface area and surface morphology. Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) characterizat...

Human serum albumin directed formation of cadmium telluride quantum dots: Applications in biosensing, anti-bacterial activities and cell cytotoxicity measurements
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 24:131862. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131862. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough cadmium-based quantum dots (QDs) are highly promising candidates for numerous biological applications, their intrinsic toxicity limits their pertinency in living systems. Surface functionalization of QDs with appropriate molecules could reduce the toxicity level. Herein, we have synthesized the smaller sized (1-5 nm) aqueous-compatible biogenic CdTe QDs using human serum albumin (HSA) as a surface passivating agent via a greener approach. HSA-functionalized CdTe QDs have been explored in multiple in vitro se...

Genotypic and phenotypic antimicrobial resistance of Irish Clostridioides difficile isolates, 2022
CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that for moxifloxacin, tetracycline and clindamycin, phenotypic resistance in C. difficile can be predicted by genetic indicators and used for public health purposes. However, for the other five antibiotics, the model is not accurate and further development is necessary.PMID:38670525 | DOI:10.1016/j.anaerobe.2024.102857 (Source: Anaerobe)

The future of chemical pleurodesis: A review of novel and investigational sclerosant agents
Am J Med Sci. 2024 Apr 24:S0002-9629(24)01168-6. doi: 10.1016/j.amjms.2024.04.008. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChemical pleurodesis is a technique in which an injurious and inflammatory substance is instilled into the pleural cavity to cause adhesion and fibrosis. It is commonly used in the management of recurrent malignant pleural effusions. Historically, many different types of sclerosants have been described, though only a few, including talc, the tetracycline derivatives, and anti-septic compounds such as silver nitrate and iodopovidone, have found their way into mainstream use. However, over the past several years, ...

Environmental antibiotics exposure and childhood obesity: A cross-sectional case-control study
Ecotoxicol Environ Saf. 2024 Apr 25;277:116339. doi: 10.1016/j.ecoenv.2024.116339. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTChildren's exposures to environmental antibiotics are a major public health concern. However, limited data are available on the effects of environmental antibiotic exposures on childhood obesity. Our study aimed to explore this relationship. We conducted a cross-sectional case-control study nested in a population-based survey of primary school students, including 1855 obese and 1875 random selected control children. A total of 10 antibiotics in urine samples were measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spe...
