139. Ketamine ’s Efficacy in Suicidal Depressed Patients With Borderline Personality Disorder
Antidepressant treatment response is limited in patients with Major Depression (MDD) and comorbid Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, recent studies suggest that intravenous ketamine may be an effective antidepressant treatment in this population. It is unknown if this treatment would be effective in MDD and comorbid BPD if suicidal ideation was elevated. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

152. Deep Brain Stimulation for Treatment-Resistant Depression Changes Plasma Metabolic Markers
Treatment-refractory depression (TRD) occurs in approximately 30-35% of depression patients. As TRD persists, its burden increases exponentially, with impairments in functional and social functioning, loss of quality of life, and a higher risk of suicide. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is emerging as a potential therapy. However, there is no objective biomarker that can predict clinical response. Here we examine whether metabolic/mitochondrial markers can predict treatment response in refractory depression patients receiving DBS to the medial forebrain bundle (slMFB). 160. Poly (ADP-Ribose) Polymerase-1 (PARP1) Expression in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
In this study, we evaluate the expression of PARP1 in two brain areas that have demonstrated pathology in MDD. Additionally, we evaluated the differences in a subgroup of individuals that died by suicide in the MDD group to those that did not die by suicide. (Source: Biological Psychiatry)

Evaluating the impact of  the Community Helpers Program on adolescents 12-18 years old in Edmonton, Canada
CONCLUSION: Findings show contextual effect of CHP; i.e., being potentially exposed to the program reduced the likelihood of anxiety- and depression-related visits. Costs of CHP implementation could be compared with the avoided costs to assess economic benefits of implementing CHP.PMID:38683287 | DOI:10.17269/s41997-024-00878-6 (Source: Canadian Journal of Public Health)

Prevalence of and risk factors for suicidal ideation in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: Our results show that a significant proportion of adolescents experience suicidal ideation, yet these rates are comparable with pre-pandemic results. Providing psychological support is fundamental, with a focus on improving parent-adolescent relationships.PMID:38679958 | DOI:10.57187/s.3461 (Source: Swiss Medical Weekly)

Can neurocognition, brain neurotrophic factor, triglyceride, and total cholesterol predict suicidal ideation in first ‐episode Han Chinese patients with schizophrenia?
ConclusionSerum BDNF level, PANSS score, and MCCB score can be used as auxiliary predictors of suicidal ideation in schizophrenic patients. Combining these three indicators can effectively predict suicidal ideation in schizophrenic patients. (Source: Brain and Behavior)
