Utilizing network pharmacology, molecular docking, and animal models to explore the therapeutic potential of the WenYang FuYuan recipe for cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury through AGE-RAGE and NF- κB/p38MAPK signaling pathway modulation
CONCLUSION: This study utilized network pharmacology, molecular docking, and animal experiments to identify the potential mechanism of the WenYang FuYuan recipe, which may be associated with the regulation of the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway and the inhibition of target proteins and mRNAs in the downstream NF-kB/p38MAPK pathway.PMID:38697555 | DOI:10.1016/j.exger.2024.112448 (Source: Experimental Gerontology)

Combining echocardiography and fluoroscopy imaging in real time for left atrial appendage occlusion - single center experience from Poland
CONCLUSIONS: This study marks the inaugural application of FI in Polish LAAO procedures. FI, offering enhanced visualization and reduced procedure times, holds promise in improving patient safety and treatment efficacy. We recommend its consideration as a standard visualization technique for LAAO procedures.PMID:38693977 | PMC:PMC11059017 | DOI:10.5114/kitp.2024.138575 (Source: Polish Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)

A "dual-key-and-lock" platform for distinguishing autophagy during neuroinflammation
Biosens Bioelectron. 2024 Apr 27;258:116344. doi: 10.1016/j.bios.2024.116344. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAutophagy is an essential degradative process that governs the renewal of organelle and maintains the homeostasis of cellular microenvironment. Its dysregulation has been demonstrated to be an indicator for neuroinflammation. To elucidate the interrelationship between neuroinflammation and autophagy, optical probes are ideal tools as they offer a number of advantages such as high spatiotemporal resolution and non-invasive sensing, which help to visualize the physiological and pathological functions of interested anal...

Atrial fibrillation incidence after coronary artery bypass graft surgery and percutaneous coronary intervention: the prospective AFAF cohort study
Conclusion. New-onset atrial fibrillation during 30 days of follow-up was rare after percutaneous coronary intervention but common after coronary artery bypass grafting. A prolonged uninterrupted heart rhythm monitoring strategy identified additional patients in both groups with new-onset atrial fibrillation after discharge.PMID:38695238 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2024.2347297 (Source: Scandinavian Cardiovascular Journal)

Comparison of aspiration catheter performance using adaptive pulsatile aspiration in an < em > in vitro < /em > thrombectomy model
CONCLUSION: APA via the Von Vascular, Inc. ALGO® pump achieved a high success rate in an in vitro MT model. All catheters tested with the pump achieved complete reperfusion in all trials, and complete clot ingestion into the pump was seen in a majority of trials. The promising in vitro performance of APA using multiple catheters warrants future in vivo investigation.PMID:38693768 | DOI:10.1177/15910199241250082 (Source: Interventional Neuroradiology)

The possible causal relationship between COVID-19 and imaging markers of cerebral small vessel disease: a Mendelian randomization study
This study aims to explore the causal correlation between COVID-19 and the imaging markers of CSVD using Mendelian randomization (MR) methods.METHODS: Summary-level genome-wide association study (GWAS) statistics for COVID-19 susceptibility, hospitalization, and severity were utilized as proxies for exposure. Large-scale meta-analysis GWAS data on three neuroimaging markers of white matter hyperintensity, lacunar stroke, and brain microbleeds, were employed as outcomes. Our primary MR analysis employed the inverse variance weighted (IVW) approach, supplemented by MR-Egger, weighted median, and MR-PRESSO methods. We also co...

Theoretically Based Factors Associated With Stroke Family Caregiver Health
The objective of this study is to determine theoretically based factors associated with unhealthy days in stroke family caregivers.RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Secondary data analysis was conducted using baseline data from a large randomized controlled clinical trial testing the Telephone Assessment and Skill-Building Kit program with 254 family caregivers of persons who have had strokes. Guided by a conceptual model derived from Lazarus' transactional approach to stress, data were analyzed using multiple regression with unhealthy days as the dependent variable and theoretically based factors as independent variables.RESUL...

Visual imagery deficits in posterior cortical atrophy
Cogn Neuropsychol. 2024 May 2:1-16. doi: 10.1080/02643294.2024.2346362. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVisual imagery has a close overlapping relationship with visual perception. Posterior cortical atrophy (PCA) is a neurodegenerative syndrome marked by early impairments in visuospatial processing and visual object recognition. We asked whether PCA would therefore also be marked by deficits in visual imagery, tested using objective forced-choice questionnaires, and whether imagery deficits would be selective for certain properties. We recruited four patients with PCA and a patient with integrative visual agnosia due to bila...
