What are the effects of pharmacological, non-invasive brain stimulation and psychological interventions, and their combination, in the treatment of post-stroke depression? A Cochrane Review summary with commentary
CONCLUSION: Evidence for the effectiveness of pharmacological, psychological, and combination therapies for the management of PSD is uncertain, as the quality of the evidence has been assessed as very low. Therefore, further studies with improved methods should investigate pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions for the treatment of depression in stroke survivors.PMID:38669490 | DOI:10.3233/NRE-246003 (Source: NeuroRehabilitation)

ASCOD phenotyping of acute vertebrobasilar artery occlusion treated by mechanical thrombectomy: insight from the PERSIST registry
CONCLUSIONS: The most common etiology in patients with VBAO was atherosclerosis, followed by cardiac pathology and other. Compared to the A1 subgroup, the C1 subgroup showed better functional outcomes, whereas the O1 subgroup showed worse outcomes. Additionally, there was no statistically significant difference in the recurrence risk.PMID:38669707 | DOI:10.3171/2024.1.JNS232508 (Source: Journal of Neurosurgery)

The relationship between atherosclerosis and dementia
CONCLUSION: Cognitively impaired individuals, in particular those with vascular cognitive impairment, have poorer quality of life and shorter survival. Risk factors contributing to such impairment are similar to those for ischaemic or haemorrhagic stroke. It may be concluded that most of the analysed risk factors play a role in the development of both atherosclerosis and dementia.PMID:38669152 | DOI:10.21101/cejph.a7848 (Source: Central European Journal of Public Health)
