Knockdown of lncRNA AU020206 could inhibit microglia apoptosis in ischemic stroke
Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand). 2024 Mar 31;70(3):142-147. doi: 10.14715/cmb/2024.70.3.21.ABSTRACTThe diagnostic biomarkers associated with ischemic stroke (IS) that may have clinical utility remain elucidated. Thus, the potential functional lncRNAs in IS were explored. The Gene Expression Omnibus database provided the transcriptome profile of IS for download. WGCNA analysis and integrated bioinformatics were used to find genes that were differentially expressed (DEGs). The Starbase database created the lncRNA-based ceRNA network. In order to investigate the molecular mechanism and involved pathways of DEGs in IS, function...

Improvement in right heart function following kidney transplantation in esrd patients: insights from speckle tracking echocardiography analysis
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of KTx on the right heart chambers in ESRD patients. 57 adult KTx candidates were enrolled in this prospective longitudinal study, while 49 of them were included in the final assessment. Patients underwent a comprehensive cardiac assessment, including conventional echocardiography, speckle tracking echocardiography, and three-dimensional heart modeling both before and after surgery. Echocardiographic assessments showed significant increases in right ventricular (RV) ejection fraction, RV fractional area change (RVFAC), tricuspid annular plain systolic excursion, RV fractional shorte...

Early and Long-Term Results of Simultaneous and Staged Revascularization of Coronary and Carotid Arteries
CONCLUSIONS: This study revealed no significant difference in the impact of simultaneous CABG + CEA or staged CABG/CEA on the incidence of death, stroke, MI, and MACEs over a 30-day and long-term follow-up period. Although the immediate results indicated an increased risk of a complicated course (attributable to overall complications) and more prolonged ventilation after simultaneous CABG + CEA compared with staged CABG/CEA, this did not lead to an increase in fatal complications. Therefore, the implementation of either tactic is considered eligible and appropriate following a thorough operative risk assessment.PMID:386514...

Thrombus composition and regulatory T cell expression are associated with clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients with thrombectomy
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant correlation between erythrocyte and fibrin/platelet components in thrombus and functional outcome, but increased expression of regulatory T cells was associated with good functional outcome.PMID:38650441 | DOI:10.3724/zdxbyxb-2023-0424 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Relationship Between Hemorrhage Type and Development of Emotional and Behavioral Dyscontrol After Hemorrhagic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with ICH and a low GCS score at admission are at increased risk of developing EBD 3 months after hemorrhagic stroke and may benefit from early intervention.PMID:38650464 | DOI:10.1176/appi.neuropsych.20230114 (Source: Journal of Neuropsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences)

The Influence of Primary Language on Postoperative Stroke Outcomes
Language barriers have the potential to influence acute stroke outcomes. Thus, we examined postoperative stroke outcomes among non-English primary language speakers. (Source: American Journal of Surgery)

A Systematic Review of the Epidemiology and The Public Health Implications of Stroke in Sub-Saharan Africa
With approximately 11 million strokes occurring annually worldwide, and over 6.5 million deaths annually, stroke has made its place as one of the major killers in the world. Although developing countries make up more than 4/5 of the global stroke burden, well-grounded information on stroke epidemiology remains lacking there. Correction: Emergent carotid stenting versus no stenting for acute ischemic stroke due to tandem occlusion: a meta-analysis
Diana F, Romoli M, Toccaceli G, et al.Emergent carotid stenting versus no stenting for acute ischemic stroke due to tandem occlusion: a meta-analysis. J NeuroIntervent Surg 2023;15:428–433. Since this paper was first published, figure 3 has been updated, because an article was wrongly included in the analysis. The OR, 95 CI and weight categories have been updated. However, point estimate remains unchanged, and only a minor change to 95%CI emerged. (Source: Journal of NeuroInterventional Surgery)

Mechanical thrombectomy in patients with acute ischemic stroke in the USA before and after time window expansion
Conclusions The window expansion for mechanical thrombectomy for patients with acute ischemic stroke was associated with an increase in the numbers of mechanical thrombectomy procedures and performing hospitals with a reduction of in-hospital mortality in the USA. How much of the outcome improvement after successful recanalization is explained by follow-up infarct volume reduction?
Conclusion 56% (95% CI 38% to 78%) of outcome improvement after successful recanalization was explained by FIV reduction. Results corroborate pathophysiological assumptions and confirm the value of FIV as an imaging endpoint in clinical trials. 44% (95% CI 22% to 62%) of the improvement in outcome was not explained by FIV reduction and reflects the remaining mismatch between radiological and clinical outcome measures.
