RICTOR amplification is associated with Rictor membrane staining and does not correlate with PD-L1 expression in lung squamous cell carcinoma
In conclusion, the correlation between RICTOR amplification and Rictor membrane staining suggests that the latter can potentially be used as a surrogate marker to identify lung SCC cases with RICTOR amplification. Since a significant proportion of PD-L1 negative SCC cases harbor RICTOR amplification, analyzing PD-L1 negative tumors by RICTOR FISH or Rictor IHC can help select patients who may benefit from mTORC2 inhibitor therapy.PMID:38706776 | PMC:PMC11066283 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2024.1611593 (Source: Cell Research)

USP39 Promotes the Viability and Migration of Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Cell by Regulating STAT1
Conclusion: Our findings indicated that USP39 knockdown may inhibit HNSCC viability and migration by suppressing STAT1 expression. The results of this study suggest that USP39 may be a potential new target for HNSCC clinical therapy or a new biomarker for HNSCC.PMID:38706215 | DOI:10.1177/15330338241250298 (Source: Cell Research)

Capsaicin reverses cisplatin resistance in tongue squamous cell carcinoma by inhibiting the Warburg effect and facilitating mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis via the AMPK/AKT/mTOR axis
Cell Biol Int. 2024 May 5. doi: 10.1002/cbin.12169. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCisplatin is commonly used for the chemotherapy of tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC); however, adverse side effects and drug resistance impact its therapeutic efficacy. Capsaicin is an active ingredient in chili peppers that exerts antitumor effects, whether it exerts antitumor effects on cisplatin-resistant cells remains unknown. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the effect of capsaicin on cisplatin resistance in TSCC cells and explored the underlying mechanisms. A cisplatin-resistant TSCC cell line was established by treated wit...

NRN1 interacts with Notch to increase oncogenic STAT3 signaling in melanoma
Melanoma is a highly heterogeneous cancer, in which frequent changes in activation of signaling pathways lead to a high adaptability to ever changing tumor microenvironments. The elucidation of cancer specific... (Source: Cell Communication and Signaling)

LncRNA FOXD2-AS1 Promotes the Growth, Invasion and Migration of OSCC Cells by Regulating the MiR-185-5p/PLOD1/Akt/mTOR Pathway
One of the most prevalent types of cancer of the head and neck is oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) [1]. Every year, about 14,290 new instances of OSCC are reported in the US [2], and the overall survival rate for those suffering with OSCC remains rather low [3]. At the same time, the developmental mechanism of OSCC is still unclear and lacks an effective drug target. Thus, a thorough investigation of OSCC's molecular mechanism is essential to understanding the disease's developmental mechanism and creating fresh, potent treatment strategies. WNT3 promotes chemoresistance to 5-Fluorouracil in oral squamous cell carcinoma via activating the canonical β-catenin pathway
5-Fluorouracil (5FU) is a primary chemotherapeutic agent used to treat oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). However, the development of drug resistance has significantly limited its clinical application. There... (Source: BMC Cancer)

Injectable hydrogels based on biopolymers for the treatment of ocular diseases
This study provides a thorough analysis of applications of injectable hydrogels based on biopolymers across these ocular disorders. Injectable hydrogels based on biopolymers can be customized to have specific physical, chemical, and biological properties that make them suitable as drug delivery vehicles, tissue scaffolds, and sealants in the eye. For example, they can be engineered to have optimum viscosity to be injected intravitreally and sustain drug release to treat retinal diseases. Their porous structure and biocompatibility promote cellular infiltration to regenerate diseased corneal tissue. By accentuating their in...

Evaluating the efficacy and safety of nivolumab and ipilimumab combination therapy compared to nivolumab monotherapy in advanced cancers (excluding melanoma): a systemic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Combining nivolumab and ipilimumab did not significantly improve overall survival compared to nivolumab alone in advanced cancers (except melanoma). However, it did show slightly better PFS at the cost of increased toxicity, particularly grades 3-4 adverse events. Specific AEs occurred more frequently in the combination group. Further trials are needed to fully assess this combination in treating advanced cancers.PMID:38705953 | DOI:10.1186/s43046-024-00218-2 (Source: J Egypt Natl Canc In...)
