Pulmonary pleomorphic carcinoma arising in mixed squamous and glandular papilloma: A case report
The tumor was composed of fibrovascular cores and papillomatous fronds lined by pseudostratified glandular epithelium. A lesion covered with keratinizing squamous epithelium was also observed. In addition, the solid part beneath the mild atypical squamous epithelia was composed of malignant-appearing squamous cells and spindle-shaped atypical cells. Therefore, we interpreted that pleomorphic carcinoma (squamous cell carcinoma and spindle cell carcinoma) arose in mixed papilloma. AbstractSolitary pulmonary papillomas (SPPs) are rare lung neoplasms. Histologically, SPP is classified into three subtypes, and mixed squamous an...

Extramammary Paget Disease. Part I. Epidemiology, Pathogenesis, Clinical Features, and Diagnosis
Extramammary Paget disease (EMPD) is a rare skin cancer of apocrine-rich skin that mimics common inflammatory and infectious dermatoses, leading to delays in diagnosis and increased patient morbidity. Better clinical recognition of this entity, multidisciplinary patient assessment, and deeper understanding of the underlying pathophysiology are essential to improve patient care and disease outcomes. It is important to distinguish primary intraepithelial/micro-invasive EMPD from invasive EMPD or cases with adenocarcinoma arising within EMPD. En-bloc excision of sacral squamous cell carcinoma with immediate reconstruction
AbstractSacral squamous cell carcinoma is an uncommon condition that may arise in scars following burns or in chronic wounds, such as an untreated pilonidal cyst. The aim of the present technical note is to describe a surgical technique aimed at minimizing local recurrence rates by en-bloc resection as well as providing immediate plastic reconstruction: 1. right-sided extended vertical rectus abdominis myo-cutaneous (VRAM) flap; 2. abdomino-perineal excision of the rectum with end colostomy; 3. en-bloc excision of the mass inclusive of gluteus maximus muscles and distal sacrectomy; 4. sacrectomy defect covered with VRAM fl...

Prevalence of high-risk human papillomavirus in oral squamous cell carcinoma with or without chewing habits
by Namrah Anwar, Qurratulain Chundriger, Sohail Awan, Tariq Moatter, Tazeen Saeed Ali, Maria Abdul Rasheed, Shahid Pervez Oral cancer (OC) is the most common cancer in Pakistani males and the second most common in females. Major risk factors include peculiar chewing habits, human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and molecular pathways. However, less data is available for this avertible cancer regarding its association with high-risk HPV (HR-HPV) and chewing habits in this region. Therefore, this study was done to determine the prevalence of HR-HPV in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and its correlation with p16 and chewi...

The effects of HIV and oncogenic human papillomavirus on the tumor immune microenvironment of penile squamous cell carcinoma
In conclusion, the tumor microenvironment of penile squamous cell carcinoma seems to be affected by both HIV and HPV infections. TIM3 appears to be a potential therapeutic target in PSCC pat ients with hrHPV infections. (Source: PLoS One)

Impact of 18F-FDG PET Intensity Normalization on Radiomic Features of Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinomas and Machine Learning-Generated Biomarkers
Conclusion: Only one third of the features demonstrated a high degree of reproducibility across intensity-normalization techniques, making uniform normalization a prerequisite for interindividual comparability of radiomic markers. The choice of normalization technique may affect the radiomic features’ predictive value with respect to HPV. Our results show trends that normalization to the lentiform nucleus may improve model performance, although more evidence is needed to draw a firm conclusion. (Source: Journal of Nuclear Medicine)

Perineal Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising in an Epidermal Cyst
Acta Med Okayama. 2024 Apr;78(2):197-200. doi: 10.18926/AMO/66930.ABSTRACTA 90-year-old Japanese woman who had been aware of a subcutaneous mass on the right perineal region for 5 years was referred to our hospital for further examination and treatment because of the rapid growth of the mass and bleeding that began 3 months earlier. A biopsy of the mass revealed a diagnosis of well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. On preoperative examination, the tumor was 90×40 mm in size and was suspected to have partially invaded the levator ani muscle and external sphincter. Since a preoperative cardiac evaluation indicated sev...

Hepatopathy secondary to infiltration by malignant melanoma: diagnostic value of liver biopsy
We present the case of a 61-year-old male with no relevant history of interest who was admitted to hospital due to constitutional syndrome and discomfort in the right hypochondrium. On admission, abdominal ultrasound was performed with findings of chronic liver disease and innumerable well-defined hypoechogenic lesions of small size. Although the study was extended with other imaging tests, they did not provide more information than what was available at the time. Subsequently, an ultrasound-guided liver biopsy was performed with pathological anatomy compatible with infiltration by malignant melanoma. Subsequently, a searc...

Rational treatment options for T1/2N0M0 squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal: a population-based study combined with external validation
CONCLUSION: The nomogram developed in this study effectively and comprehensively evaluated the prognosis of patients with cT1/2N0M0 squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal. Local excision is recommended for low risk patients, radiotherapy for moderate-risk patients, and radiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy for high-risk patients.PMID:38688457 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyae068 (Source: The Oncologist)

< em > Circ_0053943 < /em > complexed with IGF2BP3 drives uveal melanoma progression via regulating N6-methyladenosine modification of < em > Epidermal growth factor receptor < /em >
In this study, we identified a novel circRNA, circ_0053943, through re-analysis of UM microarray data and quantitative RT-PCR. Circ_0053943 was found to be upregulated in UM and to promote the proliferation and metastatic ability of UM cells in both in vitro and in vivo settings. Mechanistically, circ_0053943 was observed to bind to the KH1 and KH2 domains of insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 3 (IGF2BP3), thereby enhancing the function of IGF2BP3 by stabilizing its target mRNA. RNA sequencing assays identified epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) as a target gene of circ_0053943 and IGF2BP3 at the transc...
