Lymphoid interstitial pneumonia in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus: Case report and literature review
Lupus. 2023 Nov 29:9612033231218957. doi: 10.1177/09612033231218957. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP) is a rare form of interstitial pulmonary disease, which has been described in association with a wide range of autoimmune disorders. Although the association of this entity with Sjogren's syndrome is well known, only a few cases are reported in relation to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The aim of this paper is to review the cases reported in literature to date, as well as to describe the characteristics of these patients including the new case presented herein. We will be focusing o...

Risk of subclinical atherosclerosis in primary Sjogren's syndrome: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Patients with pSS have an increased risk of subclinical atherosclerosis compared to healthy population and thus possibly require early and disease-specific intervention. Further research is warranted for more accurate cardiovascular risk management in SS.PMID:37977997 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2023.11.007 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Combined bisalbuminemia and Bisalbuminuria: A rare finding on serum and urine electrophoresis
CONCLUSION: Bisalbuminemia and bisalbuminuria are rare findings with few case reports available in the English literature. These findings may occur secondary to inherited albumin variants or may be acquired. Diabetes mellitus is the medical condition most associated with acquired bisalbuminemia and bisalbuminuria. Although most cases of bisalbuminemia and bisalbuminuria are clinically insignificant, some albumin variants may have altered affinity for steroid hormones (e.g., thyroxine) and/or drugs which potentially could be clinically significant.PMID:37952813 | DOI:10.1016/j.cca.2023.117635 (Source: International Journal ...

Advances in mesenchymal stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles therapy for Sjogren's syndrome-related dry eye disease
Exp Eye Res. 2023 Nov 9:109716. doi: 10.1016/j.exer.2023.109716. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSjogren's syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune disorder that affects exocrine glands, particularly lacrimal glands, leading to dry eye disease (DED). DED is a common ocular surface disease that affects millions of people worldwide, causing discomfort, visual impairment, and even blindness in severe cases. However, there is no definitive cure for DED, and existing treatments primarily relieve symptoms. Consequently, there is an urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies based on the pathophysiology of DED. Mesenchymal stem...

Polyneuritis cranialis as a unique initial presentation of juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus: Case report
We describe here an adolescent girl presenting with polyneuritis cranialis (PNC) as an initial presentation of SLE which had not been reported before in literature. She presented with symptoms suggestive of bilateral abducent and hypoglossal neuropathy with nerve conduction studies showing partial axonal neuropathy of left facial and accessory nerves, 6 weeks after common cold. The condition was not associated with any other neurological or systemic manifestations nor features of Sjogren's syndrome. Her condition responded well to pulsed methylprednisolone therapy and plasma exchange. After exclusion of the common causes a...

A case report of sarcoidosis overlapped with Sjogren's syndrome
CONCLUSION: This case extends our understanding of overlapped SS with sarcoidosis and provides a referential value for clinical diagnosis.PMID:37915717 | PMC:PMC10617853 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001341 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Clinical characteristics and risk factors of Helicobacter pylori infection ‐associated Sjogren's syndrome
ConclusionTogether, our findings demonstrated that hypergammaglobulinemia could be the independent risk factors ofH. pylori infection in patients with Sjogren's syndrome, requiring the physician's advice in the future. (Source: Immunity, Inflammation and Disease)

Ocular and eyelid involvement in collagen vascular diseases. Part II. Dermatomyositis, Scleroderma, and Sarcoidosis
Collagen vascular disease is a heterogeneous group of autoimmune diseases that affect multiple organ systems. Sjogren's syndrome, dermatomyositis, scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, and sarcoidosis are collagen vascular diseases that often present with characteristic cutaneous manifestations. Although less known, various ocular manifestations that affect both external and internal structures of the eye can also be seen in these conditions. Multidisciplinary management between dermatologists and ophthalmologists is essential in the early diagnosis and management of collagen vascular diseases affecting both the skin ...

Association between atherosclerosis and primary Sjogren's syndrome: A cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of AS in patients with pSS is reported to be 41.3%. Several risk factors have been associated with AS in these patients, including the duration of the disease, levels of Th cells, B lymphocytes, and CRP. Interestingly, IgM appears to have a protective effect against AS. It is worth noting that traditional therapy for pSS does not seem to have any effect in preventing AS events.PMID:37885467 | PMC:PMC10598616 | DOI:10.1002/hsr2.1638 (Source: Atherosclerosis)
