Clinical algorithm model based on cfDNA to predict SLE disease activity
CONCLUSIONS: Through systematic stratified analysis and clinical algorithm model, this study found that plasma cfDNA concentration is closely related to SLE disease severity, which has guiding significance for the future clinical application of cfDNA in SLE.PMID:38183242 | DOI:10.1177/09612033231226314 (Source: Lupus)

Examining the biological pathways underlying clinical heterogeneity in Sjogrens syndrome: proteomic and network analysis
Conclusions Our data provide clues to the pathways contributing to the glandular and non-glandular manifestations of SS and to potential therapeutic targets for different SS subtypes. In addition, our analysis highlights the need for further exploration of altered metabolism and mitochondrial dysfunction in the context of SS subtypes. (Source: Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases)

Understanding the roles of the microbiome in autoimmune rheumatic diseases
Rheumatol Immunol Res. 2023 Dec 19;4(4):177-187. doi: 10.2478/rir-2023-0027. eCollection 2023 Dec.ABSTRACTThe gut microbiome represents a potential promising therapeutic target for autoimmune diseases. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the links between the gut microbiome and several autoimmune rheumatic diseases including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) spondyloarthropathies (SpA), Sjogren's syndrome (SS), and systemic sclerosis (SSc). Evidence from studies of RA and SLE patients suggests that alterations in the gut microbiome composition and function contribute to disease devel...

The experience of dry mouth and screening for Sjogren's syndrome by the dentist: patient-reported experiences
CONCLUSIONS: We confirm the significant consequences of dry mouth on oral quality of life, as well as its association with oral health problems. Sjögren's Syndrome screening by dentists should be increased, as well as prevention of the associated oral health risks.PMID:38102574 | DOI:10.1186/s12903-023-03727-z (Source: Pain Physician)

PRMT5 participates in B cell overactivation in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) through RSAD2 ‐mediated NF‐κB signaling
ConclusionsLow-expression of PRMT5 through inactivation of RSAD2/NF- κB signalling pathway alleviates the hyperactivity of B cells, which may provide theoretical basis and potential therapeutic targets for clinical treatment of pSS. (Source: Immunity, Inflammation and Disease)

Serum and tissue biomarkers associated with CRESS and STAR response to B ‐cell targeted therapy in TRACTISS trial of Sjogren's syndrome
ConclusionsRituximab modulates both peripheral and SG inflammation, preventing the deterioration of exocrine function linked with functional and metabolic restoration of the glandular epithelium. Response assessed by newly developed cCRESS and STAR criteria was associated with differential modulation of peripheral and SG biomarkers, emerging as novel tools for patient stratification. Sjogren's syndrome meets Meige's syndrome
This report details a rare case where a patient simultaneously suffered from Sjogren's syndrome (SS) and Meige's syndrome (MS). SS, an autoimmune disorder, and MS, a rare neurological condition characterized by involuntary eyelid closure, presented in a 73-year-old male. The patient had been experiencing dry eye symptoms for the past 5  years, with the onset of eyelid spasms and tetanic eye closure occurring 3 years ago. Traditional treatments, including subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation, provided only temporary relief. (Source: Journal of Neuroimmunology)

Lymphoid interstitial pneumonia in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus: Case report and literature review
Lupus. 2023 Nov 29:9612033231218957. doi: 10.1177/09612033231218957. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLymphoid interstitial pneumonia (LIP) is a rare form of interstitial pulmonary disease, which has been described in association with a wide range of autoimmune disorders. Although the association of this entity with Sjogren's syndrome is well known, only a few cases are reported in relation to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The aim of this paper is to review the cases reported in literature to date, as well as to describe the characteristics of these patients including the new case presented herein. We will be focusing o...
