Bronchiectasis associated to connective tissue diseases: a single-center experience
The identification of connective tissue disease (CTD) in patients with bronchiectasis (BE) is crucial due to increased risk of mortality and hospitalization in CTD associated BE (CTD-BE), particularly in rheumatoid arthritis (RA). To explore prevalence and characteristics of CTD-BE, consecutive adults with clinically and radiologically significant BE were enrolled in a prospective, observational study at the Policlinico Hospital in Milan, Italy, and underwent blood test for antinuclear antibodies (ANA), extractable nuclear antigens antibodies (ENA), anti-neutrophil cytoplasm antibodies (ANCA) and anti-citrullinated protein...

Interstitial lung disease in connective tissue disease: data from an Italian Multidisciplinary Unit
Conclusion: We show the characteristics and management of our cohort of patients with CT-ILD. The most common CTDs associated with ILD were systemic sclerosis followed by rheumatoid arthritis. The most prevalent radiological pattern was NSIP. The simultaneous evaluation of a rheumatologist and a pulmonologist led to a change or initiation of treatment in more than two-third of the patients. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Pharmacological management of connective tissue disease-associated pulmonary arterial hypertension
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2023 Oct 23. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2023.2273395. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a severe, progressive pulmonary vasculopathy (Group 1 Pulmonary Hypertension (PH 1)) that complicates the course of many connective tissue diseases (CTD) and significantly impacts the quality and length of life of patients. Due to the various tissues that can be affected by CTD, detailed testing is required to differentiate true PAH from other types of pulmonary hypertension caused by CTD such as left heart disease (Group 2 PH), pulmonary parenchymal disease (Group ...

Risk factors and prognosis of interstitial lung disease for primary Sj ögren syndrome patients: A retrospective case‒control study
ConclusionThis study showed that pSS patients with ILD tended to have a late onset and long course of pSS. An age over 50  years, purpuric rash, AMA-M2 antibody positivity, and diabetes were risk factors for ILD in pSS patients. Advanced age and cancer history were prognostic factors in pSS patients.Key Points• This study showed that pSS patients with ILD tended to have a late-onset and lengthy course of pSS, with the NSIP pattern as the predominant lung image.• The risk factors for ILD in pSS patients determined in this study were an age over 50 years, purpuric rash, AMA-M2 antibody positivity, and diabetes.• The ...

Clinicopathological prognostic characteristics and long ‑term outcomes of patients with breast cancer and collagen disorder in comparison to those without collagen disorder
Oncol Lett. 2023 Sep 29;26(5):495. doi: 10.3892/ol.2023.14082. eCollection 2023 Nov.ABSTRACTCollagen disorders are chronic autoimmune diseases with a complex clinical course; however, the risk of breast cancer in patients with collagen disorders remains unclear. The present study aimed to investigate long-term outcomes in women with breast cancer and collagen disorders. A total of 25 patients with breast cancer and collagen disorders who were treated between January 2004 and December 2011 were included. The clinicopathological factors, treatment, recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) were reviewed. The m...
