Streptococcus canis prostatitis and endocarditis with thromboembolism in a dog with sertoli cell tumour in a cryptic testis and prostatic squamous metaplasia
We describe an unusual case of prostatitis caused by Streptococcus canis evolving to endocarditis and splenic, renal, and cerebral thromboembolism in a dog, associated with a Sertoli cell tumour in a cryptic testis and diffuse prostatic squamous metaplasia. A nine-year-old, intact male, mixed-breed dog was presented to a veterinary teaching hospital with abdominal pain and prostration. Physical examination and abdominal ultrasonography revealed an atrophic right testicle located in the subcutaneous tissue. The left testicle was in the abdominal cavity with increased dimensions and irregular contours. Complete blood count a...

News in the classification of WHO 2022 testicular tumours
Pathologica. 2023 Jan 16. doi: 10.32074/1591-951X-825. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe novelties in WHO 5th edition classification of genitourinary tumours are: a) nomenclature changes, including the replacement of the term "primitive neuroectodermal tumour" with "embryonic-type neuroectodermal tumour" and of "carcinoid" with "neuroendocrine tumour". Also, seminoma is now placed in a "germinoma" family of tumours, while sertoliform cystoadenoma was moved from adnexal tumours to Sertoli cell tumours; b) new entities, specifically signet ring stromal tumour, myoid gonadal stromal tumour and well-differentiated papillary me...

Unraveling the effect of the inflammatory microenvironment in spermatogenesis progression
AbstractExperimental autoimmune orchitis (EAO) is a chronic inflammatory disorder that causes progressive spermatogenic impairment. EAO is characterized by high intratesticular levels of nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF α) causing germ cell apoptosis and Sertoli cell dysfunction. However, the impact of this inflammatory milieu on the spermatogenic wave is unknown. Therefore, we studied the effect of inflammation on spermatogonia and preleptotene spermatocyte cell cycle progression in an EAO context and through the intratesticular DETA-NO and TNFα injection in the normal rat testes. In EAO, premeioti...

Simultaneous Sertoli Cell-Only Syndrome and Leydig Cell Tumor in a Patient with Azoospermia: A Rare Case Report
This study aims to report a simultaneous Sertoli cell-only syndrome and Leydig cell tumor in the same patient. A 32-year-old man presented with a history of primary infertility for 3 years. Physical exami nation revealed normal secondary sexual characteristics. Two successive seminal fluid analyses revealed azoospermia. A scrotal ultrasound scan showed a 28 × 27 mm hypoechoic and hypervascular right testicular mass. Right radical orchiectomy and simultaneous left testicular biopsy were conducted. Th e histopathological examination revealed Sertoli cell-only syndrome and Leydig cell tumor with focal Leydig cell hyperplasia...
