Autoimmune Regulator (AIRE) Deficiency Does Not Affect Atherosclerosis and CD4 T Cell Immune Tolerance to Apolipoprotein B
In conclusion, our data suggests that AIRE is not involved in regulating thymic expression of ApoB or atherosclerosis. Alternative mechanisms how ApoB-reactive CD4 T cells are selected in the thymus will have to be investigated.PMID:35097028 | PMC:PMC8792778 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2021.812769

Antiphospholipid syndrome-mediated acute cerebrovascular diseases and long-term outcomes
CONCLUSION: We found no differences between stroke subtypes and APS types. aPL profiles were not associated with any of the acute cerebrovascular diseases described in this cohort. CVT may be an initial thrombotic manifestation of APS with low mortality and good long-term functional outcome.PMID:35042376 | DOI:10.1177/09612033221074178

Liver Transplant in Hemoglobin SC Disease and Autoimmune Hepatitis: A Case Report
We report a case of a 50-year-old man with sickle cell disease genotype SC (HbSC) and cirrhosis secondary to autoimmune hepatitis who underwent liver transplant. His postoperative course included upper extremity deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolus, stroke via a patent foramen ovale after a line removal, and posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome. Fortunately, he is alive with a functioning graft at 10 months after liver transplant. This case highlights the feasibility of liver transplant in sickle cell disease given the support of meticulous multidisciplinary care and the unique aspects of autoimmune hepatitis an...

Was Antiphospholipid Syndrome a Risk Factor of Stroke? A Systemic Review and Meta-Analysis of Cohort Studies
Dis Markers. 2021 Dec 16;2021:4431907. doi: 10.1155/2021/4431907. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTAntiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is characterized by thrombosis. This systemic review and meta-analysis was to verify the hypothesis that APS might increase the risk of stroke. Studies were identified after literature searching of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane. Newcastle-Ottawa Quality Assessment Scale Cohort Studies (NOQAS-C) was used to assess the quality of studies. The pooled effect with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) was calculated by random-effect model. I-square (I 2) was used to test heterogeneity. Funnel plot was used to eva...

Modulating Autoimmunity against LDL: Development of a Vaccine against Atherosclerosis
Hamostaseologie. 2021 Dec;41(6):447-457. doi: 10.1055/a-1661-1908. Epub 2021 Dec 23.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease of the arterial wall that leads to the build-up of occluding atherosclerotic plaques. Its clinical sequelae, myocardial infarction and stroke, represent the most frequent causes of death worldwide. Atherosclerosis is a multifactorial pathology that involves traditional risk factors and chronic low-grade inflammation in the atherosclerotic plaque and systemically. This process is accompanied by a strong autoimmune response that involves autoreactive T cells in lymph nodes and atherosc...
