Melatonin induces apoptotic cell death through Bim stabilization by Sp1-mediated OTUD1 upregulation
J Pineal Res. 2021 Nov 26:e12781. doi: 10.1111/jpi.12781. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMelatonin, secreted by the pineal gland, regulates the circadian rhythms and also plays an oncostatic roles in cancer cells. Previously, we showed that melatonin induced the expression of Bim, a pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein, at both the transcriptional and post-translational levels. In the present study, we investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying the melatonin-mediated Bim upregulation through post-translational regulation. We found that ovarian tumor domain-containing protein 1 (OTUD1), a deubiquitinase belonging to the OTU pro...

Epiphycan Predicts Poor Outcomes and Promotes Metastasis in Ovarian Cancer
The small leucine-rich proteoglycan (SLRP) family is widely expressed in extracellular matrix and aggravates tumor progression. However, epiphycan (EPYC), as a member of the SLRPs family, its biological function in cancer has not been confirmed. Thus, we aimed to clarify the role of EPYC in progression of ovarian cancer (OC), and further analyze the molecular mechanisms implicated in tumorigenesis. Here, we analyzed the differential expression genes of GSE38734, including 4 matched primary OC and metastatic tissues. We obtained OC RNAseqs data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and analyzed the correlation between EPYC ex...

Overexpression of miR-138-5p Sensitizes Taxol-Resistant Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Cells through Targeting Cyclin-Dependent Kinase 6
Conclusion: In summary, these findings suggest important molecular mechanisms for the miR-138-5p-mediated Taxol sensitivity of ovarian cancer via directly targeting CDK6, suggesting miR-138-5p is an effective therapeutic target for the noncoding RNA-based anti-chemoresistance treatment.Gynecol Obstet Invest

miR-874-3p mitigates cisplatin resistance through modulating NF- κB/inhibitor of apoptosis protein signaling pathway in epithelial ovarian cancer cells
Mol Cell Biochem. 2021 Oct 30. doi: 10.1007/s11010-021-04271-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe resistance to cisplatin, the most common platinum chemotherapy drug, may confine the efficacy of treatment in epithelial ovarian cancer patients. Aberrant expression of inhibitor of apoptosis proteins set the stage for resistance to cisplatin in EOC; besides, chemosensitivity in EOC can be chalked up to dysregulation of specific miRNAs. Herein, we investigated whether there is a potential correlation between miR-874-3p and the X-chromosome-linked inhibitor of apoptosis, a member of the IAP protein family in cisplatin-resistant...

Differential expression of estrogen receptor subtypes in ovarian high-grade serous carcinoma and clear cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: High GPER-1 expression is an independent prognostic factor for PFS in HGSC patients, and GPER-1 may play a role in HGSC cell proliferation.PMID:34646075 | PMC:PMC8499597 | DOI:10.1002/rmb2.12402

Actin Beta-Like 2 as a New Mediator of Proliferation and Migration in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
In this study, we analyzed the prognostic and functional significance of ACTBL2 and its regulatory element Nuclear factor of activated T-cells 5 (NFAT5). The expression of ACTBL2 and NFAT5 was examined in tissue microarrays of 156 ovarian cancer patients by immunohistochemistry. Aiming to assess the molecular impact of ACTBL2 on cellular characteristics, functional assays were executed in vitro upon siRNA knockdown of ACTBL2 and NFAT5. ACTBL2 expression was identified as an independent negative prognostic factor for overall survival of EOC patients. EOC cell lines showed a significantly increased mRNA and protein level of ...
