Evaluation and education of hydration and sodium status in a cool environment among Chinese athletes
CONCLUSIONS: The study found that there is a significant difference in sodium levels between gender and seasons. The level of serum osmolality is also significantly different between the whole study populations concerning combined seasons. In this way, many other parameters are evaluated by correlation with seasons and gender. Hence, this study has brought forward various important findings and gives an overall evaluation of hydration status.PMID:36263568 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202210_29869

Coordinated Care to Optimize Cardiovascular Preventive Therapies in Type 2 Diabetes
This cluster randomized clinical trial assesses the effect of a coordinated, multifaceted intervention of assessment, education, and feedback vs usual care on the prescribing of all 3 groups of recommended therapies (high-intensity statins, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers, and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors and/or glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists) for adults with type 2 diabetes and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The application of the county medical community HCH model in postoperative nutrition management for patients with advanced gastrointestinal carcinoma
CONCLUSION: The county medical community HCH model has a good effect in the nutritional management of patients with advanced gastrointestinal cancer surgery. The HCH model can effectively improve the nutritional status, enhance the immune function, and increase the quality of life. Thus it is worthy of clinical application.PMID:37056855 | PMC:PMC10086927

Biomarkers to Guide Medical Therapy in Primary Aldosteronism
Endocr Rev. 2023 Jul 13:bnad024. doi: 10.1210/endrev/bnad024. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPrimary aldosteronism (PA) is an endocrinopathy characterized by dysregulated aldosterone production that occurs despite suppression of renin and angiotensin II, and that is non-suppressible by volume and sodium loading. The effectiveness of surgical adrenalectomy for patients with lateralizing PA is characterized by the attenuation of excess aldosterone production leading to blood pressure reduction, correction of hypokalemia, and increases in renin; biomarkers that collectively indicate a reversal of PA pathophysiology and restora...

Search for the Source of the Retinal Relaxing Factor.
CONCLUSIONS: the RRF is not released from vascular cells and probably neither from glial cells. The retinal cell type which does release the RRF remains unclear. Veratridine does not stimulate the RRF release in mice and the RRF release in chickens is calcium-dependent as well as calcium-independent. PMID: 29966443 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Genes, Vol. 12, Pages 1174: Search for a Functional Genetic Variant Mimicking the Effect of SGLT2 Inhibitor Treatment
In conclusion, no genetic variant was found mimicking SGLT2i based on their location near SLC5A2 and their association with sodium excretion or HbA1c and SLC5A2 expression or function.

Molecules, Vol. 26, Pages 5451: Azocalix4arene-Rhodamine Supramolecular Hypoxia-Sensitive Systems: A Search for the Best Calixarene Hosts and Rhodamine Guests
va Igor Antipin A potential hypoxia-sensitive system host-guest complex of three calixarenes (including two with four anionic carboxyl and sulphonate azo fragments on the upper rim and a newly synthesized bis-azo adduct of calixarene in the cone configuration with azo fragments on the lower rim with the most widespread cationic and zwitterionic rhodamine dyes (123, 6G and B)) was studied using UV-VIS spectrometry and fluorescence as well as 1D and 2D NMR techniques. It was found that all three calixarenes form a complex with rhodamine dyes with a 1:1 composition. The association constants of calixarene-dye complexes ...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 2515: Marine Cyanobacterial Peptides in Neuroblastoma: Search for Better Therapeutic Options
o Haroon Khan Neuroblastoma is the most prevalent extracranial solid tumor in pediatric patients, originating from sympathetic nervous system cells. Metastasis can be observed in approximately 70% of individuals after diagnosis, and the prognosis is poor. The current care methods used, which include surgical removal as well as radio and chemotherapy, are largely unsuccessful, with high mortality and relapse rates. Therefore, attempts have been made to incorporate natural compounds as new alternative treatments. Marine cyanobacteria are a key source of physiologically active metabolites, which have recently received a...

End-Stage Renal Disease: Medical Management
Am Fam Physician. 2021 Nov 1;104(5):493-499.ABSTRACTEnd-stage renal disease (ESRD) is diagnosed when kidney function is no longer adequate for long-term survival without kidney transplantation or dialysis. Primary care clinicians should refer people at risk of ESRD to nephrology to optimize disease management. Kidney transplantation typically yields the best patient outcomes, although most patients are treated with dialysis. The decision to initiate dialysis is best made through shared decision-making. Because most patients with ESRD elect to receive hemodialysis, the preservation of peripheral veins is important for those...
