High Prevalence of Renal Salt Wasting Without Cerebral Disease as Cause of Hyponatremia in General Medical Wards.
CONCLUSIONS: Of the 24 patients with RSW, 21 had no cerebral disease, supporting our proposal to change cerebral-renal salt wasting to renal salt wasting. Application of established pathophysiological standards and a new algorithm based on determination of FEurate were superior to the volume approach for determination of urinary sodium when identifying the cause of hyponatremia. CNS Summit 2017 Abstracts of Poster Presentations
Conclusion: This novel technology discriminates and quantifies subtle differences in behavior and neurological impairments in subjects afflicted with neurological injury/disease. KINARM assessments can be incorporated into multi-center trials (e.g., monitoring stroke motor recovery: NCT02928393). Further studies will determine if KINARM Labs can demonstrate a clinical effect with fewer subjects over a shorter trial period. Disclosures/funding: Dr. Stephen Scott is the inventor of KINARM and CSO of BKIN Technologies.   Multiplexed mass spectrometry assay identifies neurodegeneration biomarkers in CSF Presenter: Chelsky...

Comparison of Placebo Effect between Asian and Caucasian Type 2 Diabetic Patients: A Meta-Analysis.
Conclusions: The overall differences of the placebo effect on HbA1c changes as well as on body weight changes were not significant between Asian and Caucasian T2DM patients. The placebo effect on HbA1c changes and weight changes was not associated with baseline age, gender, baseline body mass index, baseline HbA1c, duration of diabetes, or study duration. The Effect of a Patient Education Multimodal Digital Platform on Knowledge Acquisition, Self-efficacy, and Patient Satisfaction
This study examined the impact of digital training instrument based on multimodal learning approach on surgical ward hospitalized patient education-related variables. The study was conducted as a multisite study in a large medical center as a two-arm, controlled trial with randomized cluster sampling. All patients meeting the inclusion criteria were offered the opportunity to participate. The control group (n = 40) received nurse explanation on home self-injection of enoxaparin sodium, whereas the intervention group (n = 40) received a tablet for multimodal learning specifically developed for this study. All participants c...

Intensity-dependent mass search for improving metabolite database matches in chemical isotope labeling LC-QTOF-MS-based metabolomics
Anal Chim Acta. 2023 Sep 1;1272:341467. doi: 10.1016/j.aca.2023.341467. Epub 2023 Jun 1.ABSTRACTLiquid chromatography mass spectrometry (LC-MS) has been increasingly used for metabolome analysis. One of the critical steps in the LC-MS metabolome analysis workflow is related to metabolite identification. Among the measured parameters, peak mass is commonly used to search against a database for potential metabolite matches. Higher accuracy mass measurement allows the use of a narrower mass tolerance window for mass search. While various types of mass analyzers can routinely measure a peak mass with an error of less than a fe...
