J Cell Mol Med. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.17936. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe most common type of cancer in the world is lung cancer. Traditional treatments have an important role in cancer therapy. In the present review, the most recent findings on the effects of medicinal plants and their constituents or natural products (NP) in treating lung cancer are discussed. Empirical studies until the end of March 2022 were searched using the appropriate keywords through the databases PubMed, Science Direct and Scopus. The extracts and essential oils tested were all shown to effect lung cancer by several mechanisms inclu...

Pharmacokinetic evaluation of 24 representative components of Ling-Gui-Zhu-Gan decoction in acute myocardial infarction model rats via a validated ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method
CONCLUSIONS: The specificity, linearity, precision and accuracy, recovery, matrix effect and stability were validated according to Food and Drug Administration guidance. The validation results demonstrated that the method could be applied to evaluate the pharmacokinetic parameters of LGZGD in AMI rats. The pharmacokinetic parameters showed substantial improvement in quality research of LGZGD, thereby laying the groundwork for preclinical and clinical trials in chronic heart failure clinical efficacy.PMID:37698150 | DOI:10.1002/rcm.9620

Hypolipidemic effect of β-caryophyllene in high fat diet and fructose induced type-2 diabetic adult male rats
Bioinformation. 2022 Nov 30;18(11):1087-1091. doi: 10.6026/973206300181087. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTSkeletal muscle is responsible for the majority of insulin-stimulated whole-body glucose elimination, under normal circumstances. High dietary fat consumption increases stored fat mass and is a major risk factor for metabolic disorders. The conventional pharmacological treatments are associated with many adverse side effects and high rates of secondary failure which lead to an increasing demand for natural products with anti-diabetic activity and lesser side effects. β-Caryophyllene is a naturally occurring sequiterpene th...

< em > In vitro < /em > antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity of Neem and Kirata herbal formulation mediated Silver nanoparticles
This study aimed to determine the antimicrobial and cytotoxic activity of Neem and Kirata herbal formulation-mediated silver nanoparticles against oral biofilm. The green synthesis of Neem and Kirata herbal formulation-mediated silver nanoparticles was done. The antimicrobial action against the strains of Candida albicans, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Streptococcus mutans were assessed. The results showed that the newly formulated nanoparticle had effective anti-microbial properties and decreased cytotoxic properties which make it advantageous for clinical applications and treatment modalities. It show...

Effect of β-sitosterol on insulin resistance & amp; protein expression of insulin signalling molecules in quadriceps muscle of high fat diet-induced type-2 diabetic rats
Bioinformation. 2022 Nov 30;18(11):1098-1104. doi: 10.6026/973206300181098. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTChanges in life style, such as high-calorie diet intake and lack of exercise, have increased the global prevalence of obesity and diabetes. The major pathophysiological event contributing to the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus is the target tissues to insulin action. Currently available drugs are unsuccessful for the treatment of type 2 diabetes due to their unwanted side effects. Hence, search drugs, from plant sources. β-sitosterol is plant sterols with structurally almost like that of cholesterol. It is widely p...

Kaempferia parviflora rhizome extract exerts anti-obesity effect in high-fat diet-induced obese C57BL/6N mice
Food Nutr Res. 2023 Aug 23;67. doi: 10.29219/fnr.v67.9413. eCollection 2023.ABSTRACTKaempferia parviflora (KP) rhizome, also called black ginger, has been used as a herbal medicine for many centuries. This current study was aimed at exploring whether KP rhizome extract (KPE) had anti-obesity effects and the mechanism involved. Five-week-old C57BL/6N male mice were allocated into five groups for 8-week feeding with control diet (CD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD + 150 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day KPE (HFD+K150), HFD + 300 mg/kg BW/day KPE (HFD+K300), and HFD + 600 mg/kg BW/day KPE (HFD+K600). KPE decreased BW, body fat mass, adip...

Analysis of Inhibition Potential of Nimbin and its Analogs against NF- κB Subunits P50 and P65: A Molecular Docking and Molecular Dynamics Study
CONCLUSION: These results indicate that NO5 may have a potential inhibitory effect against NF-κB subunit p65, which needs to be further validated in in-vitro and in-vivo systems. Also, the results obtained emphasize and pave the way for exploring the Nimbin scaffold against NF-κB inhibition for cancer therapeutics.PMID:37694791 | DOI:10.2174/1871520623666230908101204

Effects of Dichloromethane and N-Butanol Fractions of < em > Nigella sativa < /em > on ACHN and GP-293 Cell Line Morphology, Viability, and Apoptosis
CONCLUSION: Our findings demonstrated that these two fractions of N. sativa induce inhibitory effects on the ACHN cell line morphology and viability. These effects were lower than those induced by the total extract. In addition, the two fractions caused more marked effects in the renal cancer cell line compared with the GP-293 cell line.PMID:37694244 | PMC:PMC10492620 | DOI:10.4103/abr.abr_394_22

Microplastics and phthalate esters release from teabags into tea drink: occurrence, human exposure, and health risks
Environ Sci Pollut Res Int. 2023 Sep 12. doi: 10.1007/s11356-023-29726-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTea, the most common infusion worldwide, is usually sold in teabags due to the ease of usage. The increase in the use of plastic materials in the food packaging industry has led to an increase in released contaminants, such as microplastics (MPs) and phthalates (PAEs), in various food products including teabags. In this research, the abundance and features of MPs as well as PAEs concentration were investigated in 45 teabag samples of different Persian and German brands. The abundance of MPs in the Persian and German teab...
