Promotion of ABCG2 gene expression by neolignans from Piper longum L
Biosci Biotechnol Biochem. 2023 Sep 14:zbad132. doi: 10.1093/bbb/zbad132. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe focused on Piper longum L., an herbal drug produced in Myanmar, which has a renoprotective effect. Thus, we attempted to isolate and identify compounds that enhance the expression of the ABCG2 gene from the aerial parts of the plant except for the fruit. Among the various P. longum extracts, we isolated and identified the components. Using Caco-2 cells, the hABCG2 mRNA expression-enhancing effects of the isolated compounds were compared with the positive reference compound (3-methylcholanthrene: 3MC) using real-time P...

Euphorbia factor L1 suppresses breast cancer liver metastasis via DDR1-mediated immune infiltration
In this study, we explored the effect and mechanism of EFL1 on breast cancer liver metastasis. Female BALB/c mice were subjected to breast cancer-surgical hepatic implantation (SHI) to establish breast cancer liver metastasis model in vivo. At 10 days post-surgery, mice were administrated with EFL1 once daily for a total of 2 weeks. Serum AST and ALT activities, abdominal circumference, peritoneal fluid, tumor weight and volume were determined to assess liver and mesenteric re-metastasis of breast cancer. H&E staining was used to observe morphology changes in tumor, liver and small intestine tissues. ELISA was applied ...

Human adipose-derived stem cells preconditioned with a novel herbal formulation Jing Shi attenuate doxorubicin-induced cardiac damage
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 14;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205026. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPathological cardiac hypertrophy is a considerable contributor to global disease burden. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been used to treat cardiovascular diseases since antiquity. Enhancing stem cell-mediated recovery through CHM represents a promising approach for protection against doxorubicin (Dox)-induced cardiac hypertrophy. Herein, we investigated whether human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) preconditioned with novel herbal formulation Jing Si (JS) improved protective ability of stem cells against doxorubicin-induced ...

MPdb: Melghat Plant databank
Bioinformation. 2022 Dec 31;18(12):1119-1121. doi: 10.6026/973206300181119. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTMelghat Plant databank (MPdb) is the first attempt to review all the past floristic documents and medicinal plants and digitize the Melghat Flora. This curated database contains compiled information about 1028 plants from 139 plant families and 537 genera. Curated medicinal plant information gathered 660 medicinal species records from 128 plant families and 421 genera in MPdb for Melghat Flora. Each plant record is reviewed, scrutinizes, and recorded. More than 9000 records for medicinal uses for nearly 140 diseases, report...

Higher cadmium and zinc accumulation in parsley (Petroselinum crispum) roots activates its antioxidants defense system
Biometals. 2023 Sep 13. doi: 10.1007/s10534-023-00529-2. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTParsley (Petroselinum crispum) is herb with many biological and medicinal benefits for humans. However, growth on zinc (Zn) and cadmium (Cd) contaminated sites might get severely affected due to over accumulation of heavy metals (HM) in different plant tissues. Antioxidants play a crucial role in minimizing the negative effects of HM. The present study investigates the effects of Zn and Cd stress on P. crispum morphological parameters, enzymatic/non-enzymatic antioxidant profiling and metal accumulation in shoot/root. Plants were exposed...
