Uncovering the anti-obesity constituents in Ginkgo biloba extract and deciphering their synergistic effects
This study demonstrated a case study for uncovering the anti-obesity constituents in an anti-obesity herbal medicine (Ginkgo biloba extract) and deciphering their synergistic effects via targeting human pancreatic lipase (hPL). Following screening the anti-hPL effects of eighty herbal medicines, Ginkgo biloba extract (GBE50) was found with the most potent anti-hPL activity. Global chemical profiling of herbal constituents coupling with hPL inhibition assay revealed that the bioflavonoids and several flavonoids in GBE50 were key anti-hPL constituents. Among all tested thirty-eight constituents, sciadopitysin, bilobetin, que...

Terpenoids in Diabetic nephropathy: Advances and Therapeutic Opportunities
Endocr Metab Immune Disord Drug Targets. 2023 Sep 1. doi: 10.2174/1871530323666230901164219. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetic nephropathy (DN) is the foremost ailment resulting in end-stage renal damage. Chronic hyperglycaemia and hyperlipidaemia are the foremost reason for disease progression. The disease is characterized by the severity of albuminuria and cardiovascular disorders. Approximately 20 to 40% of the global prevalence of DN is mostly reported to occur in individuals with diabetes, and nearly 28% of DN occurs in individuals with other renal disorders. The pathological mechanism is very complex, involving ...

Opportunities and challenges for ribosome-inactivating proteins in traditional Chinese medicine plants
Toxicon. 2023 Sep 6:107278. doi: 10.1016/j.toxicon.2023.107278. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTRibosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) are a class of cytotoxic rRNA N-glycosylase, which widely exist in higher plants in different taxonomy, including many traditional Chinese medicinal materials and vegetables and fruits. In this paper, the traditional Chinese medicinal plants containing RIPs protein were sorted out, and their pharmacological effects and clinical applications were analyzed. Since many RIPs in traditional Chinese medicine plants exhibit antiviral and antitumor activities and show great clinical application potent...
