Status and content of outpatient preoperative education for rectal cancer patients undergoing stoma surgery provided by Japanese wound, ostomy, and continence nurses: a cross-sectional study
Preoperative education can improve postoperative quality of life in patients undergoing stoma surgery. However, the prevalence and when, where, and how preoperative education is implemented are unclear. Theref... (Source: BMC Nursing)

Robotic-Assisted versus Laparoscopic Surgery for Rectal Cancer: An Analysis of Clinical and Financial Outcomes from a Tertiary Referral Center
Conclusions: In our study, robotic-assisted surgery for rectal cancer resulted in less severe and fewer total postoperative complications. Still, it was associated with higher surgery and inpatient costs. With increasing experience, the operative time may be reduced, and the postoperative recovery may be further accelerated, leading to reduced surgery and total inpatient costs.PMID:38542019 | DOI:10.3390/jcm13061795 (Source: Clinical Colorectal Cancer)

Prognostic Significance of Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio in Predicting Complete Pathological Response in Rectal Cancer Patients Receiving Neoadjuvant Chemoradiotherapy
CONCLUSIONS Our study showed a higher near-complete response rate in rectal cancer patients with NLR <3.63 receiving nCRT. This finding supports that a low preoperative NLR is a good prognostic factor in indicating pathological response.PMID:38544312 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.943750 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Association between microsatellite status and characteristics and outcomes of early-onset compared to late-onset rectal cancer
ConclusionsIn both age groups, MSI-H rectal cancers were more often mucinous and poorly differentiated carcinomas and had pT3-4 stage more often than MSS cancers. MSI-H rectal cancers tend to present less often with distant metastases and nodal involvement than MSS cancers only in early-onset, but not in late-onset rectal cancers. The association between MSI status and survival was not notable in this study, whether in the early-onset or late-onset groups. (Source: International Journal of Colorectal Disease)
