Tumor size impact on TNM staging which define post-operative complications in rectal cancer
AbstractThe purpose of this study was to see how accurate tumor size was at predicting T and N stages in rectal malignancies. Tumor sizes of 40  mm and greater than 40 mm were used to assess post-operative challenges in related to T1–T2 and T3–T4 stages, as well as between node N0 and node N1 and N2 patients. A total of 131 patients were treated for colorectal cancer, with 54 patients <  40 mm and 77 patients >  40 mm receiving Da Vinci colorectal surgery. Conferring to the Clavien–Dindo classification grade III, there’s an increase in the percentage of tumors >  40 mm, which also impacts ...

Clinical application of the B-type sutured ileostomy in robotic-assisted low anterior resection for rectal cancer: a propensity score matching analysis
AbstractCurrently, there is no consensus on the position and method for temporary ileostomy in robotic-assisted low anterior resection for rectal cancer. Herein, this study introduced the B-type sutured ileostomy, a new temporary ileostomy technique, and compared it to the traditional one to assess its efficacy and safety. Between September 2020 and December 2022 in our centre, B-type sutured ileostomy was performed on 124 patients undergoing robotic-assisted low anterior resection for rectal cancer. A retrospective review of a prospectively collected database identified patients who underwent robotic-assisted low anterior...

Robotic Rectal Cancer Surgery: Current Controversies
AbstractPurpose of ReviewThis review evaluates the current literature on robotic surgery for rectal cancer and discusses ongoing controversies related to outcomes, training, adoption, and cost-effectiveness.Recent FindingsRobotic rectal surgery is associated with some benefits in short-term outcomes such as lower conversions compared to laparoscopy but also substantially higher costs. Data on long-term oncologic outcomes are still limited. Studies are inconsistent regarding benefits in margin positivity and other metrics. There is significant variability in training practices and adoption rates globally.SummaryRobotic rect...

Effect of Robotic Inferior Mesenteric Artery Ligation Level on Low Anterior Resection Syndrome in Rectum Cancer
Conclusions: In patients who underwent robotic low anterior resection, there is a statistically significant difference in the LARS score in the first 1 year with the LL technique compared with that of the HL technique, and the LL technique has superiority in reducing the development of LARS between the two oncologically indistinguishable methods.PMID:38574307 | DOI:10.1089/lap.2023.0472 (Source: Adv Data)

Clinicopathological factors predict residual lymph node metastasis in locally advanced rectal cancer with ypT0-2 after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy
ConclusionThe nomogram model can predict RLNM in patients with ypT0-2 tumors. It can help select suitable patients for performing organ-preserving strategies after NCRT. (Source: Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology)

Epidemiological insights into colorectal cancer in northwestern Algeria
CONCLUSION: This study may provide a comprehensive glimpse into CRC epidemiology in northwest Algeria. Understanding regional differences is the key to implementing specific preventive and interventional strategies.PMID:38566765 | PMC:PMC10984843 | DOI:10.3332/ecancer.2024.1684 (Source: Ecancermedicalscience)
