Effect of starch and peanut oil on physicochemical and gel properties of myofibrillar protein: Amylose content and addition form
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Apr 18:131699. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.131699. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStarch and peanut oil (PO) were widely used to improve the gel properties of surimi, however, the impact mechanism of addition forms on the denaturation and aggregation behavior of myofibrillar protein (MP) is not clear. Therefore, the effect of starch, PO, starch/PO mixture, and starch-based emulsion on the physicochemical and gel properties of MP was investigated. The results showed that amylose could accelerate the aggregation of MP, while amylopectin was conducive to the improvement of gel properties. The additio...

Evaluation and Modification of a Shared Decision-Making Tool for Peanut Allergy Management
This study refined the decision aid ’s content to better reflect patients’ and caregivers’ lived experience.Recent FindingsCurrent standard of care for peanut allergy is avoidance, although peanut oral immunotherapy has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in patients 4 –17 years old.SummaryAn advisory board of allergy therapy experts (n = 3) and patient advocates (n = 3) informed modifications to the decision aid. The revised tool underwent cognitive debriefing interviews (CDIs) among adolescents (12–17 years old) with peanut allergy and caregivers of patients 4–17 years old with p...

The OUtMATCH study: treating multiple allergies
It is recognised that of those children who do have allergies (about 8% of the population), 30–80% have responses to multiple foods. A double blind, placebo-controlled, randomised clinical trial, the Omalizumab as Monotherapy and as Adjunct Therapy to Multi-Allergen Oral Immunotherapy in Food Allergic Participants (OUtMATCH) study is a three phase study comparing omalizumab to placebo in children with multiple food allergies and is in its first phase. The study then goes on to phase two, a longer-term (52 weeks) treatment with omalizumab with oral immunotherapy and then the third stage will assess the introduction of...

Effect of homemade peanut oil consumption during pregnancy on low birth weight and preterm birth outcomes: a cohort study in Southwestern China
CONCLUSIONS: Homemade peanut oil consumption was a potential risk factor for both LBW and PB, of which health authorities who are responsible for food safety of the country should pay more attention to providing recommendation for oil consumption during pregnancy.PMID:38629142 | DOI:10.1080/16549716.2024.2336312 (Source: Global Health Action)

Purification and Characterization of Desferrioxamine B of Pseudomonas fluorescens and Its Application to Improve Oil Content, Nutrient Uptake, and Plant Growth in Peanuts
Microb Ecol. 2024 Apr 17;87(1):60. doi: 10.1007/s00248-024-02377-0.ABSTRACTMicroorganisms produce siderophores, which are low-molecular-weight iron chelators when iron availability is limited. The present analyzed the role of LNPF1 as multifarious PGPR for improving growth parameters and nutrient content in peanut and soil nutrients. Such multifarious PGPR strains can be used as effective bioinoculants for peanut farming. In this work, rhizosphere bacteria from Zea mays and Arachis hypogaea plants in the Salem area of Tamil Nadu, India, were isolated and tested for biochemical attributes and characteristics that stimulate ...

Ecological and health risk assessments of heavy metals and their accumulation in a peanut-soil system
This study evaluated the potential ecological and health risks of heavy metals (Cu, Cr, Cd, Pb, Zn, Ni, and As) and their accumulation in a peanut-soil system based on 34 soil and peanut kernel paired samples across China. Soil As and Cd posed the greatest pollution risk with 47.1% and 17.6% of soil samples exceeding the risk screen levels, respectively, with 26.5% and 20.6% of the soil sites at relatively strong potential ecological risk level, respectively, and with the geo-accumulation levels at several soil sites in the uncontaminated to moderately contaminated categories. About 35.29% and 2.94% of soil sites were mode...
