The antibiogram of pus cultures in federal tertiary care hospital, Islamabad and its utility in antimicrobial stewardship
CONCLUSION: The generation of a local antibiogram specific to the hospital setting is essential to effectively manage infections empirically and preserve the efficacy of existing antibiotics. By implementing antimicrobial stewardship practices based on a better understanding of antibiotic susceptibility patterns, we can contribute to the mitigation of antibiotic resistance and improve patient outcomes.PMID:38682051 | PMC:PMC11055436 | DOI:10.18502/ijm.v16i1.14871 (Source: Iranian Journal of Microbiology)

Validation of deep amplicon sequencing of < i > Dicrocoelium < /i > in small ruminants from Northern regions of Pakistan
In conclusion each sample was identified asD.dendriticum based on the proportion of MiSeq reads and validated the presence of this group of parasites in the Gilgit Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. The metabarcoding deep amplicon sequencing technology and bioinformatics pathway have several potential applications, including species interactions during co-infections, identifying the host and geographical distribution ofDicrocoelium in livestock, drug therapy response evaluation and understanding of the emergence and spread of drug resistance. Risk factors for hepatocellular carcinoma associated with hepatitis C genotype 3 infection: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: Although, studies have shown that HCV genotype-3 infection is an independent risk factor for end-stage liver disease, HCC, and liver-related death, there is a lack of evidence for specific risk factors for HCC secondary to HCV genotype-3. Only cirrhosis and age have demonstrated an association; however, the number of studies is very small, and more research is required to investigate risk factors for HCC secondary to HCV genotype-3.PMID:38660636 | PMC:PMC11037048 | DOI:10.4251/wjgo.v16.i4.1596 (Source: Cancer Control)

A Deeper Depth of Response After Salvage Therapy Improves Outcomes of Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation in Relapsed Lymphoma and the Feasibility of Non-controlled Rate Freezing of Peripheral Blood Stem Cells
Conclusion High-dose therapy and autologous stem cell transplantation in low- to middle-income countries are limited to relatively younger patients, potentially curative conditions such as lymphoma, and predominantly after achieving a complete response to salvage therapy due to limited resources. Due to these factors, our study shows excellent response rates and survival outcomes compared to internationally published data. Engraftment was also excellent and comparable to published data despite the non-controlled rate freezing of peripheral blood stem cells.PMID:38659569 | PMC:PMC11039573 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.56851 (Source: Cancer Control)
