Surveillance To Track Progress Toward Polio Eradication - Worldwide, 2022-2023
MMWR Morb Mortal Wkly Rep. 2024 Apr 4;73(13):278-285. doi: 10.15585/mmwr.mm7313a1.ABSTRACTThe reliable and timely detection of poliovirus cases through surveillance for acute flaccid paralysis (AFP), supplemented by environmental surveillance of sewage samples, is a critical component of the polio eradication program. Since 1988, the number of polio cases caused by wild poliovirus (WPV) has declined by >99.9%, and eradication of WPV serotypes 2 and 3 has been certified; only serotype 1 (WPV1) continues to circulate, and transmission remains endemic in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This surveillance update evaluated indicato...

Characteristics and health implications of fine particulate matter near urban road site in Islamabad, Pakistan
Environ Res. 2024 Apr 2:118862. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2024.118862. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe escalating issue of air pollution has become a significant concern in urban regions, including Islamabad, Pakistan, due to the rise in air pollutant emissions driven by economic and industrial expansion. To gain a deeper understanding of air pollution, a study was conducted during winter 2022-2023, assessing physical, chemical, and biological factors in Islamabad. The findings revealed that the average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was notably greater than the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, r...

The prevalence of headache in the adult population of Morocco: a cross-sectional population-based study
ConclusionsWhile the 1-year prevalence of headache among adults in Morocco is similar to that of many other countries, migraine on the evidence here is at the upper end of the global range, but not outside it. H15  + and pMOH are very prevalent, contributing to the high one-day prevalence of headache. (Source: The Journal of Headache and Pain)

Presentation of Arteria Lusoria with Non Recurent Laryngeal Nerve
AbstractNon-recurrent laryngeal nerve (NRLN) is an anatomic variation seen in about 0.52 –0.7% patients, generally on right side. It exits the vagus nerve having a direct route to the larynx, unlike usual recurrent laryngeal nerve, supplying intrinsic laryngeal muscles except cricothyroid. It is sited over left side on extremely rare occasions, that is, 0.04% of the cases. Some cases of NRLN co-exists with aberrant right subclavian artery which courses behind the esophagus, also known as ‘arteria lusoria’. Here we present a case of 60-years old patient, diagnosed as goiter presented to us in june 2023 at the departme...
