BCSC Glaucoma 2021-2022 edition please
Does anyone have this volume (2021-2022 edition, which is the same as the 2020-2021 edition and the 2022-2023 edition)? I would like to see pages 137 and 171. I don't want to have the whole volume copied, just want to see those 2 pages. Possibly 7,000-15,000 ophthalmologists might also be interested in reading those two pages, too. Puerto Rico USMD vs Arkansas USDO
Considering MD at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine (SJBSM) and DO at Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (ARCOM) with interests spanning from internal and family medicine to specialties like ophthalmology and anesthesiology. I seek advice on the residency match outlook for DOs versus MDs from Puerto Rico, given recent DO/MD residency merges and evolving perceptions. San Juan Bautista School of Medicine (SJBSM) - MD Program: Pros: LCME-accredited that would... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Am I doing enough for matching Ophthalmology?
Hi all, Just looking to get some more opinions on if I'm doing enough to hopefully match into ophtho next year. I'm at a T-30ish med school with a strong ophtho department. I'm currently taking a research year in between my third and fourth year working in an ophtho lab. So far I've just done a poster presentation, but I have 1 first author case report in revisions, another first author case report soon to be submitted, I am doing edits on a manuscript that I will be first author on and... Is dentistry future-proof?
Hi folks I'm in a position where I can make career recommendations for young people. I'm trying to be very forward looking. I'm aware that due to advances in tech, biotech, AI etc. that the job market in 25 years could be very different from what we have now. It would seem that a procedure-based profession is safer from redundancy than something that can be delegated to sensors and an algorithm. Is it therefore safe to say, that dentistry, more so than even family medicine, is better... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Demand of various subspecialties
For those currently working, what is the demand for the various subspecialties? Throughout residency, I heard about the high demand for glaucoma but I'm curious if the landscape has shifted. I would love to hear answers from people in private practice and academics to get a broad perspective. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Board certified ophthalmologist work life balance and pay
Hi everyone! I just finished my first semester and I’m very interested in ophthalmology after all the lectures and also base on my shadowing experience. I will speak to one of our ophthalmologist and potentially do a summer research in optic disease. I’m seeking for some reality of being an ophthalmologist. Is the residency really that competitive? How’s the work life balance as a resident and after become a board certified ophthalmologist? How’s the pay? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why is the PsyD degree so watered down?
As a “professional degree” why are there so many different programs under the PsyD degree? I understand having PsyDs in Clinical, Counseling, or School psychology (although I feel like it’d be best to just have a PsyD in one overarching discipline, similar to how every other professional degree is specific to their overall field, MD in medicine, PharmD in pharmacy, OD in optometry, DDS in dentistry, etc.) as those are the normal, accredited eligible, pathways that lead to licensure and... How long did it take you to pay off your loans?
How long have you been an optometrist? How much debt do you have now? How much will you have paid when you pay it off? How many years will that take it in total? Is the financial cost worth the career or would you have done something different? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How do most optometrists find jobs?
Do most optometrists get jobs from internal networking? I’m asking because there are very few jobs on Glassdoor and other major job sites. Does this truly reflect the job market? Are you able to work in the geographic area you want or are you held back by job availability? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1st year
Hi! What should we be able to do at the end of the 1st year of residency in ophthalmology? At the hospital we don't have many cases and I still have difficulties recognizing large elements at the back of the eye or important pathologies, for example hypertensive/diabetic retinopathy or macular edema. At this moment, I didn't even have retinal detachments... I started to panic and I would need your advice, because I'm already thinking of giving up... It’s normal? I think that at the end of... How much will class rank affect matching into ophthalmology?
US MD 3rd year student attending a mid-low tier medical school with a home ophtho program. Unfortunately I averaged a Near Honors for majority of my rotations with a Pass in Psych so I'm in the 3rd quartile of my school. I will not get AOA or Gold Humanism with this class rank as well. I'm still waiting to take Step 2 but will aim for at least a 255 minimum, ideally above a 260. I have 2 months for dedicated and I'm currently studying for it right now even prior to dedicated. Otherwise, I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Top Glaucoma Fellowships
It has been a while since this topic came up and there isn't much of a definitive answer from searching. I'm curious in cultivating a list of the best glaucoma fellowships. Duke and Bascom are obviously the big two that come up. What other programs would you consider in the top 10 glaucoma fellowships? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Aiming for competitive specialty w/ criminal record
Hello, I am a current med student looking for some advice particularly on managing expectations as it comes to the match, residency applications, and specialty selection given my background. While I don’t know what field I’d be interested in yet, I have half a mind to pursue a competitive specialty like Ophtho, plastics, ortho, Derm, etc. I am also interested in "less competitive" fields like psych, FM, EM, and Gen surg so we will see. The problem is that I have a criminal record that I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
