Hopkins vs. Columbia
Hi everyone! I’m having a really hard time deciding between these two schools right now and would appreciate any insight! If it helps, I’m interested in ophthalmology but I know that things may change! I also am still on the fence about getting an MPH but it’s definitely a possibility. I also will be in an LDR with my partner so I do put some value on ease and ability to travel. I have friends in both locations which is a plus and I also feel like they’re very comparable in terms of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Comprehensive Practice
Is this becoming a rarity and pushed less during training? When I was undergrad 10 years ago and worked as a tech at a practice two Docs were what I would consider Comprehensive Ophthalmology. One day was for LASIK and laser procedures. They obviously had a busy cataract practice doing toric and MF IOLs. Both did a decent about of plastics like Blephs and even some Strab work on kids and adults. They had a very busy Retina clinic doing injections for your "straight forward" wet AMD and... LKSOM (Temple) vs. UUSOM (Utah)
I grew up in Utah and attended the University of Utah for undergrad. My family lives in Utah. I was accepted to LKSOM and UUSOM. I have been getting tired of Utah and would like to see something new. Philly seems like it would be cool and LKSOM serves more of the communities that I'm interested in, but LKSOM is ranked worse (68th vs UUSOM at 35th) and is super far from home. Any advice? (Cost is not an issue, and interested in ophthalmology). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FMLA paperwork
Lately I feel like I've been getting a ton of FMLA paperwork. Does anyone bill insurance or the patient for filling these out? I never have before, but am starting to consider it. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Yale vs. Hopkins
Please do not quote this message. Hi all, After much reflection, my decision has been narrowed down to these two wonderful schools. There is clearly no wrong choice, so I keep going back and forth and just can't seem to make a decision. I would love your insight on my thought process. A bit about me: My goal is to match back in California for residency. I am currently interested in neurology and ophthalmology, but could see myself going into internal medicine. Over the past few years, I... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

FAU vs Ohio State vs Pitt
I'm leaning towards doing a competitive surgical subspecialty, Ortho, Ophtho, and Derm (if i hate the surgery lifestyle) Florida Atlantic Pros The lowest total cost of attendance, 180k (not including interest) P/F (although they do have AOA) Small class size, family-like culture Lots of support from admin and faculty The location in South Florida is as close to perfect for me as I can get. Cons Lower ranked so worried about how matching into competitive... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dual Application - Ophthalmology and IM
I am M4 applying for Ophthalmology in the 2023-2024 cycle. My school needs me to submit an application in school for the IM Dean letter now. otherwise, they can't guarantee, it will be done in time. Due to the no clarity on the Step 2 score (I am taking it in June). I am sailing in 2 boats of Ophtho or IM. I can live with both and I like and will enjoy both. I think I will most likely make it for IM. However, for Ophthalmology, I am unsure only due to having no Step 2 score yet. I have one... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ophtho Chances in 2024?
Hello! M3 here trying to gage competitiveness of my application. Home PD feels confident about me matching, school advisor not so much. Interested in matching somewhere in the south, specifically FL. Step 1: Pass Step 2: 255-265 School: Low-tier in Midwest Ophtho Department: Middle-tier Research: 4 pubs, 2 posters, presentation at AAO and 3 abstracts Pre-Clinical: Mixes of Hs and Ps (Probably average for class) Clinical: All honors except Neuro/OB which were HPs LORs: Should be solid, 2... Mayo (MN) vs Michigan
Making this post for a friend who doesn’t have an account here. Both are pretty equal in terms of prestige and opportunities for research. Career goals are Ophtho, anesthesia, or IM. They’re From CA, so location isn’t super important (far from home either way.) Mayo: Pros: Loved the small class size, and already found “my people”; would feel very supported (by far the most important factor) No capped clerkships and no AOA 95% tuition scholarship Very relaxed curriculum... On Hold at SUNY
Hello all! I got put on hold at SUNY a month ago and possibly won't be hearing back until late April. I am wondering if there are any other applicants that are also put on hold. Are my chances of being accepted lower than compared to that of being waitlisted? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Full time surgical ophthalmologist, South Texas
The Eye Experts is searching for an expert ophthalmologist to join a busy practice, where you can do well for yourself and also do some real good for your patients. I am looking for a capable and experienced surgeon who can provide excellent surgical outcomes, and by being the second surgeon in the practice, cut patient wait times for surgery. The office has a suite for Lasik and minor surgery, and I use a nearby freestanding surgicenter for cataract surgery and other cases requiring... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ocular flutter
Hey, it’s a bit of a personal situation mixed into this question but is ocular flutter really that uncommon? I found a paper stating there’s only been like 50 described cases around the globe? Also, I know it can be paraneoplastic, paraifectious, toxin-related… but in most cases it’s idiopathic? I’m asking because we are currently waiting to be seen by an neuro -ophthalmologist for what I believe is ocular flutter in my 5 month old son. Of course very worried now and being a resident in... How does use of Omidria get reimbursed?
I wonder if ASCs get reimbursed if they decide to use Omidria on patients who may potentially have IFIS? At our VA, we use it often, but of course the VA just prints money. Are owners of ASC losing money when they use Omidria? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Should I set up a meeting with the PD at my home institution?
I'm applying into internal medicine this year, and was wondering if it's recommended that I meet with the program director of the IM residency program at my home institution. I've heard people do this for smaller sized specialties like ophtho or derm, and was wondering if the same applied to IM. I was thinking it could be good to discuss my competitiveness as an applicant, any general advice/tips about applying, and to learn more about my home program. Is it a good idea though? Thanks in...
