Ophthalmology Pre-Residency Research Fellowships
Hi all, I'm a final year IMG (Australia 4 year MD degree) with US citizenship (originally from Minnesota - thought I would stay in Aus forever, that plan has since changed). I graduate in December 2024, and will be in the United States from March-September for ophthal away elective and U.S based rotations (Oschner New Orleans). I did really well on Step 2 thankfully and think I am strong at making connections once I get back to the States, I just need a starting point . I'm looking... Wayne State vs CMU
Hello, I'm currently waitlisted at both schools, but they both have decent WL movement and I'd like some insight for the best case scenario where I'm accepted to both. Both schools are IS and have similar COA. I'm trying to match into Ophthalmology which is competitive so I'd like the school that can best prepare me for that. Wayne State Pros Closer to home. I live in the Metro-Detroit area so I can even potentially commute depending on how the schedules play out. This... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can you match ophthalmology with mediocre clerkship grades?
I have pretty average clerkship grades with a mixture of H/HP/P but a 26x step 2 score. I have 2 ophtho research publications and more in the works and a global ophtho experience. Will my average clerkship grades stop me from matching into optho? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medical College of Wisconsin vs. Wake Forest
Hello everyone, I am deciding between these two schools and need some help. I currently live in Milwaukee where MCW is located and I am interested in pursuing ophthalmology. MCW pros: - Extremely well regarded in Milwaukee and Wisconsin - Froedtert Hospital/health system is massive with just about every sub-specialty. MCW is within the hospital campus which would make shadowing easy - Has its own eye institute with extensive amounts of research available. -2023 match had 3 ophthalmology... Projector + mirror vs digital screen in short rooms
We are moving office spaces from our 20 foot lanes to shorter rooms. I like the ease of use of the projectors, but wanted some opinions on using a digital screen and minimizing the letters in a short room as opposed to a mirror and projector set up. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

1 month from Match and regretting my specialty. What do I do...?
M4 here, applied Ortho and did 4 away rotations and probably will match if I rank. However I got burnt out after 1-2 aways and hated pretty much everything after that. I regret applying Ortho. What do I do? If I start Ortho residency and 2 months in already want to switch, will my PD even support this switch so early? I applied and interviewed at 5 TYs, do I rank them higher? I know I'd be so much happier in ophthalmology or DR, I should have applied to one of those. I would just do a TY... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Baylor vs Dell vs NYU Grossman
I am interested in Ortho or Ophthalmology. I have family (2 siblings + parents) living in Houston and a significant other who will be living in Austin for at least 1 year, but has a somewhat flexible job with remote work on Mondays and Fridays (allowing travel on weekends) and with the possibility (keyword, possibility) to move to other locations after a year. I pre-matched to Baylor, Dell, and UT Southwestern (but not considering UT Southwestern anymore), and also got accepted to NYU... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Vahc residency
I am about to begin interviewing at VAs for residencies all over the United States. If anyone has done a residency at a VA please let me know where you did it and the pros/cons. I did one of my externships at a VA hospital and absolutely loved it! If you work at a VA hospital currently as an optometrist what are your pros and cons?? I have a few job offers and am a little overwhelmed so any advice would be appreciated (Source: Student Doctor Network)

M4 - Switching after applying to another specialty
US MD 4th year here, I applied Ortho this cycle but I honestly think Ophtho is the field for me. I regret pursuing ortho instead of ophtho. I have lots of experience in the field, as I was a scribe for an ophthalmologist for a year during my gap year. I just started a 4th year ophtho rotation as well which is reminding me how awesome this field is. If I want to pursue ophtho - what are my options? Do I have to delay graduation and do a research year or can I apply as a MD graduate (as... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

2024 OAT Breakdown (Score: 380 AA, 400 TS)
I took the OAT on January 4 to apply for the 2023-2024 cycle. I really dedicated my time and energy to studying consistently in order to score well so that I can hopefully get in to a school despite me applying a bit late in the application cycle. I sent my applications to schools in mid December without having my OAT scores, and I have already gotten an interview invite to UAB prior to writing the OAT. My overall GPA is 3.66. Here is my score breakdown: QR/RC/Bio/GC/OChem/Physics/TS/AA... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How practical is it for a neurologist to practice ophthalmology?
How practical is it for a neurologist to practice ophthalmology in the office? Some neuro-ophthalmologists did their training as a neurologist then did a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship. This is not too unusual. What if a neurologist went even farther and practiced a mix of neuro-ophthalmology and office ophthalmology, like well controlled glaucoma, refraction, dry eye syndrome, etc. Perhaps someone with that training could be part of a practice of 2-3 ophthalmologists so that there would...
