Ischemic and Inflammatory Ocular Adverse Events Following Different Types of Vaccination for COVID-19, and Their Incidence Analysis
CONCLUSION: OAEs can be observed shortly after the COVID-19 vaccination, and their category was different based on the types of vaccine. The information and incidence of OAE based on the type of vaccine can help monitor patients who were administered the COVID-19 vaccine.PMID:38622066 | DOI:10.3341/kjo.2023.0090 (Source: Korean Journal of Ophthalmology : KJO)

Development of an FeII Complex Exhibiting Intermolecular Proton Shifting Coupled Spin Transition
In this study, we investigated reversible intermolecular proton shifting (IPS) coupled with spin transition (ST) in a novel FeII complex. The host FeII complex and the guest carboxylic acid anion were connected by intermolecular hydrogen bonds (IHBs). We extended the intramolecular proton transfer coupled ST phenomenon to the intermolecular system. The dynamic phenomenon was confirmed by variable-temperature single-crystal X-ray diffraction, neutron crystallography, and infrared spectroscopy. The mechanism of IPS was further validated using density functional theory calculations. The discovery of IPS-coupled ST in crystall...

Tuning the Emission Properties of 2,1,3-Benzothiadiazoles via Regioselective Substitution
Chemistry. 2024 Apr 15:e202400644. doi: 10.1002/chem.202400644. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole (BTD) unit is a prominent building block commonly used in various research areas such as optoelectronics and bioimaging. Despite its great versatility, the development of strategies to elaborate BTD has been largely neglected, including exploring its reactivity and understanding how regioselective functionalization can be used to tune the fluorescence emission. Previous focus has primarily been on C4- or C4,C7-substitutions. Here, a series of unsymmetrical mono - and disubstituted BTDs was synthesized an...

Longitudinal Changes in Refractive Development in Highly Hyperopic Children: A 2.6-11.2 Year Follow-up of Preschoolers Diagnosed with High Hyperopia
CONCLUSION: Highly hyperopic preschool children undergoing early intervention display a marked emmetropization tendency, though most still remain moderately to highly hyperopic, with the progression of refractive changes showing non-uniform patterns with respect to age.PMID:38616539 | DOI:10.1080/02713683.2024.2336162 (Source: Current Eye Research)

A multimodal approach using fundus images and text meta-data in a machine learning classifier with embeddings to predict years with self-reported diabetes - An exploratory analysis
CONCLUSIONS: The machine learning model had acceptable accuracy and F1 score, and correctly classified more than half of the patients according to diabetes duration. Using large foundational models to extract image and text embeddings seems a feasible and efficient approach to predict years living with self-reported diabetes.PMID:38616442 | DOI:10.1016/j.pcd.2024.04.002 (Source: Primary Care)

Ophthalmic features of Lamb-Shaffer syndrome: a case series
We present a case series of 6 pediatric patients with LSS and describe its ophthalmic manifestations. Strabismus was present in 5 patients, with exotropia being most common. All subjects had significant refractive errors; 5 had astigmatism of at least 2 D. All patients had optic nerve abnormalities, including pallor (4), hypoplasia (2), and anomalous appearance (1), with retinal nerve fiber layer thinning demonstrated in a single subject.
