Specialty advice - Ophtho vs IR
MS2 at a T20 school trying to lock down a specialty. Based on a number of factors including lifestyle during/after residency, strong interest in procedural work, and alignment with future personal and financial goals, I've narrowed my specialty choice down to ophtho and IR (ENT and ortho are a distant third/fourth). I've spent a significant time shadowing both and I've made a pros/cons list for both but I still can't decide which one to go all in on. Additionally, I have a decent number... What do you think about NBEO selling their own question banks for prep? ($199 a month)
Info: Part I ABS® - NBEO Actual question bank website: TestRun Online Tool :: login Cost: $199 a month (wow can't get enough money from students already?) What do you guys think? do you guys think it's worth the money? As a person who is retaking it in about 2 months, I'm still debating. Not sure it's worth it when it says 'the questions here won't be on the actual exam' Another joke from NBEO (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Ophthalmoscope thoughts?
As a neurology junior, I feel like I have a pretty decent comprehensive exam, but my fundoscopic exam is honestly trash, and it's something I want to focus on this year. While ophthalmoscopes are plentiful in the ED, they're rare on the floors, and most/all of my seniors have their own. I'm looking at my options in purchasing one myself, but I wanted to ask SDN's opinion: a) As far as I can tell from reading online, Welch Allyn is the Littmann of ophthalmoscopes, but I hear the heart just... Optometry School Requirements
So for most optometry schools, under their pre-req requirements, it says "one course" or "one semester or one quarter." I'm a Canadian student, what is the difference between the two? Also, for calculus, many of these schools want "one course," but introductory calculus is only offered as a 0.5 credit for a half term (one semester) at my university. Does this mean I will have to take another calculus course as well? Secondly, how are Canadian GPAs translated in America? Do they remain the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Chance?
I'm in the process of applying this cycle and have had two interviews but was placed on hold for my OAT retake. My retake score ended up being 290AA/280 not what I had hoped for at all. Any idea what my chances could be ICO? With solid recommendation letters and experience? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Taking a gap year?
Hi esteemed SDN members. I would really appreciate your perspective on my situation below. I'm a MD/PhD student who really discovered ophthalmology near the later part of my PhD year and am torn between anesthesiology and ophthalmology. I'm leaning more towards ophthalmology at the moment, and started love ophthalmology for what it is after rotating through it and talking to people in the field. However, I'm not too certain about the strength of my candidacy and have a lot of uncertainties... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

OAT Breakdown
Hello, I received my score on 8/18. I scored a 400 in every category: (400/400/400/400/400/400). I have been helping many people decide how to study in a short time frame (<6 weeks) and I would love to help anyone here. However, I am a tutor for both types of chemistry, and thus my studying schedule for both subjects was a little different from traditional study methods. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Virginia Tech Carillon vs Drexel vs Rosalind Franklin (OPHTHALMOLOGY INTEREST)
Hello, I need help deciding between these three schools, with my prime interest being to match ophthalmology. I feel like Virginia Tech carillon is a better school than Drexel and RFU due to its small class size, NBME exams, pass/fail curriculum, research integration, the fact that it has its own hospital, etc. However, if I am strictly interested in ophthalmology, would it be unwise to choose Virginia Tech over Drexel or Rosalind Franklin? Those two schools have ophthalmology departments... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
