To give some background:
I live in Chicago, but my family is from Wisconsin, and my sister and mom work in Milwaukee. My significant other is from a Kansas City suburb and my college best friend is an M1 at KU Med. I am very fortunate that CoA is not a major factor in my decision making. Pitt vs brown vs Cincinnati vs UVM vs 6 others

Stony Brook vs NJMS
Really appreciate any advice! I’m on the high priority waitlist at Stony Brook, which according to them means i have a “very high” chance at being offered a seat. i’m really interested in going into ophthalmology and ideally matching into NYC or somewhere in the northeast.

in state tuition at NJMS, but stony brook apparently lets you get in state tuition after M1, so NJMS would be about 20k cheaper but only for 1 year. might end up evening out considering higher rent around NJMS...

GW Regional Campus vs Tulane
I’m interested in ophthalmology or possibly another surgical specialty. IR is also a possibility.

Step 2 247. Time to drop ophtho?
Really disappointed in my step 2 of 247. Was routinely hitting 250s prior to my exam and 80% correct on the Free 120s which some of my friends also got and received 255-265s.
Class quartile is 3rd with honors in about half my core rotations.
Research is 1 poster in ARVO and a submitted paper to a lower impact journal. I have several research papers in non-ophtho related journals as well as about 5 regional conference posters.

Just received my Step 2 score (247) and very disappointed. Should I still apply ophtho?
Ive been interested in ophtho since entering med school.
I just received a 247 on Step 2 which was below what I was averaging prior to my test with my last practice test being 255.
I also honored 3 rotations and near honors the rest but this still landed me in the 3rd quartile of my class (right at the cusp of 2nd quartile).

Is this too risky?
Tricky situation here… I'm a US MD 4th year, my school kinda forced me to take a categorical spot in the SOAP and then literally right after I took the offer, I got a paid research position offer at a super well-respected Ophthalmology program with competitive pay. They historically match all their research fellows and they believe in me, but it would delay my residency graduation 2-3 years.
