Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) DNAemia in saliva of viral encephalitis and nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Feb 19. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_356_23. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTEpstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a lymphotropic virus that causes diseases ranging from a flu-like illness called infectious mononucleosis to nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, and central nervous system (CNS) infection. Detection of EBV DNA is usually done using whole blood samples taken from the patients. We undertook the detection of EBV in blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), and saliva by real-time quantitative PCR in two patients, one with a history of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and the other having a case of viral ...

Radiotherapy alone versus concurrent chemoradiotherapy in patients with stage II and T3N0 nasopharyngeal carcinoma with adverse features: A propensity score-matched cohort study
The head and neck cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), shows a very skewed geographical distribution worldwide, with a high incidence of 20 –30 per 100,000 in East and Southeast Asia [1,2]. NPC has unique biological characteristics, anatomical constraints, and high radiosensitivity; therefore, the main treatment option is radiotherapy (RT). For stage II NPC, current chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) is recommended as the standard treatment mod ality [3]. (Source: Radiotherapy and Oncology)

Design, Preclinical Evaluation, and Clinical Translation of 68Ga-FAPI-LM3, a Heterobivalent Molecule for PET Imaging of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Conclusion: 68Ga-FAPI-LM3 exhibited FAPI and SSTR2 dual-receptor–targeting properties both in vitro and in vivo, resulting in improved tumor uptake and retention compared with that observed with monomeric 68Ga-FAPI and 68Ga-DOTA-LM3. This study highlights the clinical feasibility of 68Ga-FAPI-LM3 PET/CT for NPC imaging. (Source: Journal of Nuclear Medicine)

Re-evaluating a historic cohort of sinonasal and skull base mucoepidermoid carcinoma: an institutional experience
Primary mucoepidermoid carcinomas (MECs) of the sinonasal tract and nasopharynx are rare entities that represent a diagnostic challenge, especially in biopsy samples. Herein, we present a case series of MECs o... (Source: Diagnostic Pathology)

Role of long non-coding RNA in chemoradiotherapy resistance of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant tumor originating from the nasopharyngeal epithelial cells. Common treatment methods for NPC include radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and surgical intervention. Despite these approaches, the prognosis for NPC remains poor due to treatment resistance and recurrence. Hence, there is a crucial need for more comprehensive research into the mechanisms underlying treatment resistance in NPC. Long non coding RNAs (LncRNAs) are elongated RNA molecules that do not encode proteins. They paly significant roles in various biological processes within tumors, such as chemotherapy resistance, radi...

ThermomiR-377-3p-induced suppression of Cirbp expression is required for effective elimination of cancer cells and cancer stem-like cells by hyperthermia
CONCLUSION: Taken together, these findings reveal a previously unrecognized role for Cirbp in positively regulating hyperthermia resistance and suggest that thermomiR-377-3p and its target gene Cirbp represent promising targets for therapeutic hyperthermia.PMID:38419081 | DOI:10.1186/s13046-024-02983-3 (Source: Cell Research)
