Patterns of failure in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer of Northeastern region of India: a retrospective observational study
CONCLUSIONS: For NPC patients who undergo curative IMRT, primary tumour and nodal volumes are independent prognostic indicators. GTVp and GTVn are highly predictive of local control, distant metastases, disease-free survival, and overall survival. This justifies their use as quantitative prognostic indicator for NPC.PMID:38578506 | DOI:10.1007/s00405-024-08624-x (Source: Cancer Control)

New hopes for the breast cancer treatment: perspectives on the oncolytic virus therapy
Front Immunol. 2024 Mar 21;15:1375433. doi: 10.3389/fimmu.2024.1375433. eCollection 2024.ABSTRACTOncolytic virus (OV) therapy has emerged as a promising frontier in cancer treatment, especially for solid tumours. While immunotherapies like immune checkpoint inhibitors and CAR-T cells have demonstrated impressive results, their limitations in inducing complete tumour regression have spurred researchers to explore new approaches targeting tumours resistant to current immunotherapies. OVs, both natural and genetically engineered, selectively replicate within cancer cells, inducing their lysis while sparing normal tissues. Rec...

Long-term efficacy analysis of radiotherapy and local management of metastases in patients with newly diagnosed oligometastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma: A prospective, single-arm, single-center clinical study
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is highly sensitive to radiotherapy, and the 5-year survival rate commonly exceeds 80  % after radio-chemotherapy[1]. Distant metastases are always the main challenges, wherein 4–10 % NPC patients experience synchronous distant metastasis at first diagnosis, which lacks standard treatment[2]. However, metastatic NPC is a highly heterogenous disease with different clinical behav iors, and newly diagnosed metastatic NPC (m-NPC) is completely different from post-treatment m-NPC given the discussion on the value of local regional radiotherapy (LRRT) after palliative chemotherapy. PD-L1 expression in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and its clinical significance: A prospective observational study from a tertiary care centre
CONCLUSIONS: 72% of HNSCC patients in our cohort showed PD-L1 positivity and it was not associated with any patient demographic characteristics or aggressive pathological features. Positive PD-L1 expression may have a beneficial effect on overall survival in HNSCC.PMID:38554297 | DOI:10.4103/jcrt.jcrt_1239_22 (Source: Cell Research)

Impact of adaptive radiotherapy on survival in locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy
CONCLUSION: Although there were differences in the patient backgrounds between the two groups, this study suggests the potential effectiveness of ART in improving locoregional control, especially in the primary tumor.PMID:38549386 | DOI:10.3857/roj.2023.00374 (Source: Cancer Control)

Is fibroblast growth factor 11 (FGF11) a predictive marker for breast cancer?
Medicine (Baltimore). 2024 Mar 29;103(13):e37656. doi: 10.1097/MD.0000000000037656.ABSTRACTThe prognostic role of fibroblast growth factor 11 (FGF11) has only been reported in cancers such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and prostate cancer. The role of FGF11 in breast cancer is not fully known. It was aimed to compare FGF11 expression levels in de novo metastatic hormone receptor-positive, human epidermal reseptor-2-negative breast tumor tissue and healthy breast tissue and investigate the effect of the FGF11 expression on survival in breast cancer patients. To determine the FGF11 expression rate, breast tumor tissue of breas...

Development and internal validation of a nomogram based on peripheral blood inflammatory markers for predicting prognosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma
ConclusionOur findings confirmed the prognostic significance of the PWR and PIV in NPC. High PIV levels (>363.47) and low PWR ( ≤36.42) values are associated with worse OS in NPC patients. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

CASC19: An Oncogenic Long Non-coding RNA in Different Cancers
Curr Pharm Des. 2024 Mar 27. doi: 10.2174/0113816128300061240319034243. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 324 bp lncRNA called CASC19 is found on chromosome 8q24.21. Recent research works have revealed that CASC19 is involved in the prognosis of tumors and related to the regulation of the radiation tolerance mechanisms during tumor radiotherapy (RT). This review sheds light on the changes and roles that CASC19 plays in many tumors and diseases, such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), cervical cancer, colorectal cancer (CRC), non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), gastric cancer (GC), pan...

scRNA+TCR+BCR-seq revealed the proportions and gene expression patterns of dual receptor T and B lymphocytes in NPC and NLH
Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2024 Mar 22;709:149820. doi: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2024.149820. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWhile the relationship between single receptor lymphocytes and cancer has been deeply researched, the origin and biological roles of dual receptor lymphocytes in tumor microenvironment (TME) remain largely unknown. And since nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a type of cancer closely associated with immune infiltration, studying the TME of NPC holds particular significance. Utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing combined with T cell receptor (TCR) and B cell receptor (BCR) sequencing (scRNA + TCR + BCR-seq), we a...
