Prognostic value of lymph node-to-primary tumor ratio of PET standardized uptake value for nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a recursive partitioning risk stratification analysis
CONCLUSION: SUV NTR was an independent prognosticator for distant metastasis and regional recurrence in locoregionally advanced NPC. The RPA risk stratification model based on SUV NTR provides improved DMFS and RRFS prediction over the eighth edition of the TNM (Tumor Node Metastasis) staging system.PMID:38379851 | PMC:PMC10878206 | DOI:10.1177/17588359241233235 (Source: Adv Data)

Single cell analysis unveils the commonality and heterogeneity between nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal carcinoma
This study was to investigate the distinctive tumor microenvironments of NPC and OPC. Analyzing single-cell data from 10 cases of each subtype, we reveal significant differences in cellular composition, with NPC microenvironment dominated by T/NK and B cells, and OPC characterized by prevalent epithelial cells and fibroblasts. Dynamic transitions of CD8 T cells are observed in both tumor types, involving shifts from naivety to cytotoxicity, proliferation, and eventual exhaustion/exhausted states. Additionally, Tregs exhibit heightened proliferative abilities in later developmental stages, concomitant with exhaustion. These...

RADCURE: An open-source head and neck cancer CT dataset for clinical radiation therapy insights
Med Phys. 2024 Feb 16. doi: 10.1002/mp.16972. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPURPOSE: This manuscript presents RADCURE, one of the most extensive head and neck cancer (HNC) imaging datasets accessible to the public. Initially collected for clinical radiation therapy (RT) treatment planning, this dataset has been retrospectively reconstructed for use in imaging research.ACQUISITION AND VALIDATION METHODS: RADCURE encompasses data from 3346 patients, featuring computed tomography (CT) RT simulation images with corresponding target and organ-at-risk contours. These CT scans were collected using systems from three different man...

The association of HBV infection and head and neck cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Our study confirmed a positive relationship between HNC, specifically oral cancer and nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and HBV infection. However, further investigation is required at the molecular level to gather additional evidence in HNC.PMID:38365701 | PMC:PMC10874002 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-024-11967-7 (Source: Cancer Control)

Extranodal natural killer/T cell lymphoma nasal type simulating osteoradionecrosis with metachronic B lymphoma in the pelvis: Case report
Indian J Pathol Microbiol. 2024 Jan-Mar;67(1):162-165. doi: 10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_296_22.ABSTRACTExtranodal Natural Killer/T Cell Lymphoma Nasal Type (EN-NK/T-CL-NT) is a non-Hodgkin extranodal lymphoma of unfavorable prognosis due to its aggressive nature. This neoplasm mainly affects the paranasal sinuses, nasopharynx, oropharynx, oral cavity, palate, and rarely intestinal, gastric and skin regions. 50-year-old female with a history of lymphoma in nasal and pelvic region. At four years of tumors-free, has facial asymmetry, accompanied by sub-palpebral, nasal and lip edema. Intraoral examination revealed a large ulceration su...
