Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 793: Dielectric Characterization of Ex-Vivo Breast Tissues: Differentiation of Tumor Types through Permittivity Measurements
via-Vargas Early analysis and diagnosis of breast tumors is essential for either quickly launching a treatment or for seeing the evolution of patients who, for instance, have already undergone chemotherapy treatment. Once tissues are excised, histological analysis is the most frequent tool used to characterize benign or malignant tumors. Dielectric microwave spectroscopy makes use of an open-ended coaxial probe in the 1–8 GHz frequency range to quickly identify the type of tumor (ductal carcinoma, lobular carcinoma, mucinous carcinoma and fibroadenoma). The experiment was undertaken with data from 70 pati...

Genomic disparity impacts variant classification of cancer susceptibility genes in Turkish breast cancer patients
ConclusionTo our knowledge, this is the first study of population genetic effects in breast cancer subtypes in Turkish women. Our findings underscore the need for a large genomic database representing Turkish population-specific variants. It further highlights the significance of the ancestry-appropriate population database for accurate variant assessment in clinical settings. (Source: Cancer Medicine)

Upgrade Rate and Long-term Outcomes of Lobular Neoplasia
AbstractPurpose of ReviewLobular neoplasia is a risk factor for breast cancer development, but its management remains controversial as upgrade rates differ depending on the subtype. This review of the literature aims to identify upgrade rates of lobular neoplasia, including their variants, discuss predictors of upgrade to malignancy, and provide information on long-term outcomes.Recent FindingsUpgrade rates for atypical lobular hyperplasia and classic lobular carcinoma in situ are lower than non-classic lobular carcinoma in situ. Recent studies have focused on determining predictors of upgrade to malignancy with variable f...

Successful management of bilateral orbital metastases from invasive lobular breast cancer with abemaciclib and letrozole: a case report and literature review
This article presents a unique case of a 51-year-old female with progressive right periorbital edema, pain, and limited ocular motility. An imaging work-up showed bilateral intra and extraconal orbital infiltration, which was biopsied. The histopathologic analysis disclosed mild chronic inflammatory infiltrate with thickened fibrous tissue and moderately differentiated lobular carcinoma cells, positive for GATA3 and CK7 markers, with 100% of tumor nuclei expressing estrogen receptors (ER+). A systemic evaluation showed a multicentric nodular formation in both breasts. Further diagnostic assessments unveiled an HR+/HER2- bi...

Li-Fraumeni syndrome presenting with de novo TP53 mutation, severe phenotype and advanced paternal age: a case report
ConclusionsAdvanced paternal age is a risk factor to consider when hereditary cancer syndrome is suspected. Early detection of hereditary cancer syndromes and their multi-disciplinary surveillance and treatment is important to improve clinical outcomes for these patients. Further investigation of the relationship between the pathogenic variant ofTP53 and its phenotype may guide the stratification of surveillance and treatment. Metastatic Pleomorphic Lobular Carcinoma of the Breast to the Urinary Bladder: A Report of 10 Cases and Assessment of TRPS1 in the Differential Diagnosis With Plasmacytoid Urothelial Carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS.—: MPLC to bladder often presents in patients with a remote history of breast cancer, exhibiting significant histologic and immunohistochemical overlap with PUC. Based on prior works and the current study, estrogen receptor (particularly SP-1), mammaglobin, and p63 help differentiate MPLC from PUC. Keratin 5/6 may aid in distinguishing a less frequent basal type PUC because it is typically negative in MPLC. Some PUCs express TRPS1. Caution should be exercised because immunophenotypes of these tumors greatly overlap, and ramifications of misclassification are major.PMID:38217332 | DOI:10.5858/arpa.2023-0379-OA...

Breast surgery after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with lobular carcinoma: surgical and oncologic outcome
ConclusionAlthough 33% of ILC breast cancer patients undergoing BCS after NAC required re-excision for positive resection margins, it is considered safe given that five-year RFS remained excellent and LRR and OS did not differ by extent of surgery. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Potential role of Fbxo22 in resistance to endocrine therapy in breast cancer with invasive lobular carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Fbxo22 negativity significantly impacts on survival in BC patients with IDC and ILC, and the disadvantage was enhanced among ILC postmenopausal women or patients treated with SERMs. The findings suggest that different therapeutic strategies might be needed according to the different histopathological types when considering adjuvant endocrine therapy.PMID:38180699 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-023-07209-2 (Source: Cell Research)

Invasive lobular carcinoma metastasis to pancreas mimicking pancreatic signet ring cell carcinoma: A case report and systematic review of the literature
We report the case of a 74-year-old woman with a history of invasive lobular carcinoma presenting with a pancreatic metastasis mimicking a primary pancreatic adenocarcinoma; we also present a systematic review of the relevant literature. The presentation of pancreatic metastasis in the setting of breast cancer is unspecific, and histology is of paramount importance for a correct diagnosis; surgical metastasectomy could be of some benefit in the correct clinical setting.PMID:38176311 | DOI:10.1016/j.prp.2023.155049 (Source: Pathology, Research and Practice)

Association of metastatic pattern in breast cancer with tumor and patient-specific factors: a nationwide autopsy study using artificial intelligence
CONCLUSION: This is the first large-scale study that demonstrates that artificial intelligence methods are efficient for IE from Dutch databanks. Different histological subtypes show different frequencies and combinations of metastatic sites which may reflect the underlying biology of metastatic breast cancer.PMID:38133738 | DOI:10.1007/s12282-023-01534-6 (Source: Breast Cancer)
