The impact of histologic subtype on primary site surgery in the management of metastatic lobular versus ductal breast cancer: a population based study from the National Cancer Database (NCDB)
CONCLUSION: Lobular histology is associated with less primary site surgery, higher positive margin rates, less radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and shorter OS compared to those with HR-positive HER2-negative IDC. These findings support the need for ILC-specific data and treatment approaches in the setting of metastatic disease.PMID:37833450 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-023-07125-5 (Source: Cancer Control)

FGFR2 genetic variants in women with breast cancer
Mol Med Rep. 2023 Dec;28(6):226. doi: 10.3892/mmr.2023.13113. Epub 2023 Oct 13.ABSTRACTBlack African populations are more genetically diverse than others, but genetic variants have been studied primarily in European populations. The present study examined the association of four single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the fibroblast growth factor receptor 2, associated with breast cancer in non‑African populations, with breast cancer in Black, southern African women. Genomic DNA was extracted from whole blood samples of 1,001 patients with breast cancer and 1,006 controls (without breast cancer), and the rs2981582, rs3...

Digital mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis for detecting invasive lobular and ductal carcinoma
ConclusionDBT was associated with higher CDR for ILC, IDC, and IMC for women with dense breasts. Early detection of ILC with DBT may improve outcomes for this distinct clinical entity. (Source: Breast Cancer Research and Treatment)

Clinical and Imaging Features of MRI Screen-Detected Breast Cancer
CONCLUSION: MRI screen-detected breast cancers were most often invasive cancers. Cancers detected by MRI screening had an excellent prognosis in our study population. Invasive cancers most commonly presented as a mass.PMID:37821332 | DOI:10.1016/j.clbc.2023.09.012 (Source: Clinical Breast Cancer)

The management of locally advanced, ulcerated breast cancer in a menopausal woman: a case report
CONCLUSION: This case report emphasizes the necessity for a comprehensive and patient-centered approach to managing complex cases of breast cancer. The findings support the development of personalized therapeutic strategies aimed at improving patient outcomes and quality of life. The successful treatment of the locally advanced, ulcerated lobular carcinoma of the breast in this postmenopausal patient further highlights the importance of considering individual factors and tailoring treatment plans accordingly.PMID:37811082 | PMC:PMC10553047 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001187 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Traumatic sigmoid colon rupture due to breast cancer metastasis: a case report
Clin J Gastroenterol. 2023 Sep 21. doi: 10.1007/s12328-023-01859-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe metastasis of breast cancer to the gastrointestinal tract is rare. Herein, we presented the case of an 85-year-old woman who had a history of invasive lobular carcinoma and experienced complete colon rupture due to relatively low-energy trauma. The patient underwent bilateral total mastectomy and axillary dissection following preoperative chemotherapy 6 years ago. She had a local recurrence 2 years after the surgery and underwent chemotherapy. Subsequently, the cancer metastasized to the thoracolumbar area and retroperiton...
