Nephronophthisis 13 caused by WDR19 variants with pancytopenia: case report
We present a case of nephronophthisis 13 that resulted fromWDR19 variants. The patient, a nine-year-old Japanese boy, had detection of mild proteinuria during a school urine screening. Urinalysis revealed mild proteinuria without hematuria. Blood tests indicated pancytopenia, mild elevation of liver enzymes, and kidney dysfunction. Ultrasound examination disclosed hepatosplenomegaly. Abdominal computed tomography and bone marrow assessments ruled out malignant tumors. Subsequent kidney and liver biopsies suggested nephronophthisis and congenital hepatic fibrosis. Furthermore, comprehensive genetic analysis through next-gen...

Evolution of transplant oncology indications: a single-institution experience over 40  years
AbstractLiver transplantation (LT) for uncommon tumoral indications has changed across the decades, with impaired results reported in the first historical series mainly for non-tumoral-related causes. Recently, renewed interest in liver transplant oncology has been reported. The study aims to analyze a mono-center experience exploring the evolution and the impact on patient survival of LT in uncommon tumoral indications. A retrospective analysis of 851 LT performed during 1982 –2023 was investigated. 33/851 (3.9%) uncommon tumoral indications were reported: hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) on non-cirrhotic liver (n = 1...

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1422: The Current and Prospective Adjuvant Therapies for Hepatocellular Carcinoma
Wang Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) stands as the most prevalent form of primary liver cancer and is highly invasive and easily recurs. For HCC, chemotherapy shows limited effect. The gold standard for HCC treatment includes curative surgical resection or liver transplantation. However, the recurrence rate at 5 years after liver resection is estimated at approximately 70% and even at 5 years after liver transplantation, it is 20%. Therefore, improving survival outcomes after curative surgical resection of liver cancer is crucial. This review highlights the importance of identifying risk factors for HCC recurrence foll...
