AACOMAS Fee Waiver?
I qualified for the AAMC fee assistance program based on earning fairly little in my current job. I'm over 26 and independent so I didn't need to provide parental income for that application. The AACOMAS fee waiver seems harder to receive. For AACOMAS, it seems parental income is required even if you're independent. The only exceptions are if parents are deceased or incarcerated or if you're legally emancipated. This seems rather strict. Wondering what experiences other have had. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

From one PT program to another
So I’m currently in my first semester at a PT program in NC. I’m originally from FL but it was me and wife’s 5-year-plan to move to NC, so applying to schools in NC made sense. To make a long story short, we found out we were expecting our first baby a few months before I started in January. I did research and found that University of St. Augustine accepts transfer credits, which would be amazing since my in laws live in Daytona. Our main concern right now is being around family (for obvious... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Two More
Hi everyone, Some of you may have already seen my first few posts; I’m a (super) non-trad 40-year-old lawyer who was recently accepted to medical school. Throughout the process—prerequisites and the MCAT—I had believed time and again that my age would have been disqualifying to many (if not all) medical schools. I just found out that, as of Friday, I was accepted to two more MD programs in addition to my first acceptance. I didn’t even check my email until today and it came as such a nice... Misdemeanor while in Medical School
Currently in my M2 year and was falsely accused of assault (Class A misdemeanor, some drunk people saw someone fall and thought I punched them) when out one night with my girlfriend early in the school year. Lawyered up and the case has already been dismissed by the court. I also have character letters from multiple people including my girlfriend who was present the night of the incident and can attest to what really happened. The thing is clinical rotations are coming up soon and I'm pretty... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Take Medicine Back
If any of you guys are interested there is a small grassroots movement that’s been around for a couple of years made of physicians and some lawyers helping us who’s mission is to try and take Medicine back from PE and other corporate entitities. There is a FaceBook Group as well as a Website. It discusses the Corporation practice of Medicine and how it’s illegal in many states but of course ignored in the interest of money. I did a virtual conference w them two weekends ago and it was... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Refusal of medical monitoring (labs, ekg's, etc) in patients on court compelled medications
I just finished a sub-acute rotation, which has been my favorite inpatient experience by far. However, the one unresolved issue that bothered me was the number of pts that we have on court-compelled medication who refuse essential monitoring. The classic case is a pt on an SGA who doesn't have an FLP, CMP, EKG, A1C, or even vitals due to refusing these items. I brought this up to one attending (not on that service), who said the best we can do is document the refusal and note that the pt... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Applying for state license question
I’m thinking about moving to be closer to my family in the near future so I’m looking into applying for that states license. One part of the application wants me to reach out to my previous jobs and have them sign a form saying when I worked for them I didn’t have any issues/lawsuits/complaints, which I didn’t. However my first job was a classic associate job where I made a residents salary (signed a terrible bonus filled contract) and when I left after 2 years the boss was just upset...
