More than one NPI …
Have a couple friends who have opted out out of Medicare/Medicaid and are doing some cash pay work, but ALSO work for 501c3 clinics where they treat Medicaid patients. The facilities were fine with it (them having already opted out of Medicare), and just took out another NPI in their name [emoji2369] Is this legal? I am not very well versed in this kind of stuff so I figured I would turn to my tried and true source for all things podiatry here at SDN. I have another friend who has two NPI’s and... Workers compensation
I am currently an employed physician (interventional pain medicine ) at a hospital setting in California. A friend of mine (is a lawyer) does a lot of workers compensation. He sees the patients and sends them out to the doctors he knows. He told me if I started my own practice he could easily refer 75 (if not closer to 100) patients a month. I am trying to understand the sort of compensation I will get from just 75 workers comp patients a month till the rest of the practice picks up... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Question regarding North Carolina dental licensure. Please help me !
This might be a super dumb question. On the first line of the application, it says "I am making application for a license based on the clinical examination held ______, a legal requirement to determine my qualifications to practice dentistry in the state of North Carolina." I honestly am not sure what I am supposed to put in that blank. location? school? Another question is about CDCA ADEX/OSCE. The application only mentions "Have you ever taken the CITA examination __Yes ___No... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

physician fee structure for meeting with lawyer
Just wondering what the going rates are for a physician to charge for meeting with a lawyer to discuss patient/client. Does it matter if the case is worker's compensation versus personal injury? Are the fees different for in-person versus over-the-phone? Any input on what is reasonable would be much appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Heartland School of Dentistry (HPU Workman)
This is just a reminder that this school is going to be entirely owned and run by the largest DSO in the United States Heartland Dental with over 1700 offices. This is where dentistry is going. It isn't positive. I don't care what legal semantics are on paper to demonstrate that Heartland doesn't actually own it. It does. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Three female doctors sue L.A. County, alleging it ignored complaints about an abusive boss at Harbor-UCLA hospital
I came across an interesting article today. It seems this ortho surgeon has been the subject of three lawsuits now. Beyond this one there was a vascular surgeon who won a jury verdict against the county for retaliation linked to him, plus a fired ortho resident has an active lawsuit (she alleged very similar conduct): Three female doctors sue L.A. Weird legal situation-wife wants financial records
I got a patient who I saw for a few years, his diagnosis and most of the medical stuff is not relevant. He would do better with treatment but stayed in the mild to moderate range. Getting to the point, the patient's wife several month's ago requested all of the patient's financial transactions with my office. So, the obvious out of the way, I told my assistant to tell her no. There's no HIPAA release. So okay fine. That settled the issue for several days. I later see the patient and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Why do so few psychologists offer clinical assessments
Just something that I have noticed lately. I live in a medium-sized city on the east coast, and yet I still feel as though there are fewer than 10 psychologists in the city who offer psychodiagnostic or psychoeducation assessments. Granted, this is amongst private practice practitioners, as many of those employed in hospitals are probably neuropsychologists, or focus on specific medical populations. Why do so many not wish to offer assessments? Is it risk of litigation or going to court? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
