Forensic PP work
Thinking about a career transition- I'm currently working at an AMC in a leadership position and am slowly becoming disillusioned with it. (maybe more quickly than slowly). I have some background in forensic work (forensic unit, court clinic, pre-employment evals for law enforcement). I may have an opportunity to return to the court system for a job (competency to stand trial and serve sentence evals) in order to gain more experience. Ultimately, I'd like to go into forensic practice but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Resignation notice
I was informed that a notice period of 90 days is expected when resigning, however, I believe that this is more of an ethical expectation rather than a legal requirement. In my opinion, a notice period of 60 days should be sufficient. I would appreciate any advice on how to handle this process in a respectful and professional manner. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Not talking about what you do at your practice, but are there laws regarding leaving SRNA alone in a room? I believe ASA does not recommend it but thats more of a recommendation [?] than a law? I'm trying to see if there are documents saying it isnt allowed (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Paying 35k/year taxes on 300k income... tax evasion or genius?
Assuming I'm a 1099 contractor. By utilizing solo 401k + cash balance plan which allows total of 151k yearly PRE-tax investment thus reducing total state + federal taxes to just 35k/year. 300k pre-tax becomes 265k post-tax which puts the 300k 1099 earner on par with a 500k W2 earner in CA (where you'd be paying over 200k/year in taxes!!!! yikes) Is this legal or is it tax evasion? Can I use court-ordered community service as non-clinical volunteering?
I have a shoplifting charge and have to do 25 hours of court-ordered community service. This might seem like a silly question, but can I use these 25 hours towards my non-clinical volunteering or does that category have to be for non-court ordered activities? I probably will complete it at the local animal shelter if that matters at all. I'm assuming I can, but just want to make sure. Thanks! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Nurse diverting opioids for own use pleads guilty in federal court and may serve up to 10 years in prison
Suburban Chicago nurse pleads guilty to stealing morphine from patients A suburban Chicago nurse has pleaded guilty to tampering with medications intended for patients under her care. www.fox32chicago.com Seems quite serious charges? And maybe a bit of a reach by the prosecutor? "Diamond removed the morphine with reckless disregard and extreme indifference for the risk that the patients would be placed in danger of bodily injury," the U.S. attorney's office said in a statement. Not sure if this quite reaches that level of reckless disr...

Should you apply with an assault conviction?
Posting for a friend since they do not want to bring this up in real life to an advisor: Around 5-6 years ago, I was in a bad place and was convicted of simple assault, which is a misdemeanor. I had to show up in court, was placed on probation, the whole deal. I have had a completely clean record since then however, went to community college and then transferred, took the MCAT, etc. I have heard that assault convictions are typically automatic death sentences for an application. I did not... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
