Can DPMs perform Electromyography (EMG/NCS) studies in Virginia?
Is it within their scope of practice for DPMs perform Electromyography (EMG/NCS) studies in Virginia? Realize it's uncommon but is it legal? I see the Code of Virginia medicine seems to lump MD,DO, and DPM together for what that's worth. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Quantitative TOF monitoring
Just got around to reading the new ASA Guidelines, that STRONGLY recommend use of quantitative TOF monitors. We don’t even have these monitors in our ORs and with standard TOF twitch monitors and sugamadex we have essentially eliminated PACU issues directly attributable to residual motor weakness. Why is the ASA arming lawyers with this stuff? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Subpoenas
I hate these. Is there any way anyone has found to make it less easy to waste a day of a doctor’s life. The most common source of these is law enforcement. I get one, sometimes two, of these a year. Usually, they demand I show up in court, offering less than two weeks notice, always way after our scheduled is published. After switching or giving away a shift, or wasting days waiting to be called for testimony, I probably average a thousand dollar loss just making myself available. What’s... For those who do inpatient quickly - how?
I'm not asking how, as in, how is it possible? Just wondering how you do it. I know a lot of people can do it. But I'm out here moonlighting and it's taking me forever to get through a patient panel of 12. Like a full work day of 7-8 hours. What are you guys doing who see 15 patients then bounce to get to PP by noon? Between court, nurses stopping you, etc I just can't get myself to move faster. Any tips? HOPD with In-office lab?
Lets say a private practice Urology group with an in-house AP POD lab merges with a large hospital and becomes a Hospital Out-Patient Department. Would this affect the legality and/or billing allowances for their existing Path lab? Could they still operate their Path lab? I'm just not sure I know the answer to this. Negligence accusation story.
Inspired by a recent ED forum post, I thought I would share my experience of negligence accusation. It never progressed to a lawsuit thankfully but took a lot of time and emotional toll. This occurred shortly after I finished residency. Working inpatient psych, our team was consulted to see a woman in her early 50s who appeared frankly psychotic/manic. History from her husband notable for depression, and unclear history of possible hypomanic episodes on a few occasions over their 30-year... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

My Last Lawsuit - OR - RustedFox and Morty.
I just got a letter from the Board of Health. What follows is a summary: ****************************************************************************** -- Dear DR. RUSTEDFOX Do you remember that med-mal lawsuit in 2020? You know; that one where BOTH the patient AND her husband told you that she WASN'T allergic to IV contrast dye despite what the chart said, so you totally did the right thing and double-checked with them before you gave it to her and then she died two weeks later... Least conservative/traditional specialties?
Hello, I have a nontraditional background - I worked in finance/IB and management consulting in LA/SF/Vegas (including: companies in entertainment, technology, gaming/gambling, porn, marijuana) before moving into medicine. I had an academic administrator recently express "disgust" that I helped these sorts of "immoral" companies. (I personally have NO problem with these industries & think sex work should be completely legalized and most drugs). Any who -- I have porn star friends, friends... Pursuing JD, then MD?
So I need someone to tell me if this possible plan is crazy, or whether it actually makes sense. TL;DR: I want to pursue the MD/JD route, but instead of a combined program, I want to do JD, then work for a couple years, then MD. I came into college wanting to be a physician. I then worked as a scribe in a Level I Trauma Center, and that opened my eyes to some of the legal aspects of medicine that I found interesting - insurance, charting, differing practice scope between mid-levels and...
