How did you know you actually want to be a DVM/VMD?
Non-trad student struggling with this giant life decision. Major imposter syndrome. I think this is what I want but have so many fears it makes it hard to know if the doubts are simply the fear creeping in. Any advice on sorting through the mess in my brain? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Community college and online for prereqs +/- post bacc
Hi all! Wondering if there is a centralized list of schools that accept community college and/or online courses for prereqs. Also, better to pursue formal post bacc versus individual prereqs? Post bacc is certainly more expensive! Thanks so much! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Fetus in fetu
Incredible images. The world is a strange place. Some of the comments question the legality of treating this condition in some states. Beware of Hawaii Psychiatry Residency
University of Hawai'i Psychiatry Residency is risky because of its legal structure, culture, and recent history. Legally, it is unique because residents are employed by a corporation known as Hawaii Residency Programs. HRP is employed by the University of Hawaii. This gives the program directors, program managers, and EVEN administrators extreme leverage over the residents. This leverage is commonly abused during your most vulnerable period of medical training. The culture is passive... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Florida Postdoc Training Question
Hello, I am a current intern and secured a postdoc for the upcoming training year in Florida. The postdoc will be 40 hours a week at a community mental health facility. Additionally, I was asked by a local private practice if I would be interested in supplementing my income by seeing a few patients on the weekends under the supervision of one of their licensed psychologists. I have been reading over the Florida laws and it appears that if I used the title of "psychology resident" at the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lawyer to Doctor?
Hello everyone! I had a few questions about applying and potentially getting into medical school (DO/MD). A background about myself. I obtained my bach degree in 2014, with a double major in business management and finance. Thereafter, I decided to pursue my JD, and started LS in 2015. I graduated in 2018 with my JD, and passed my bar exam on my first attempt. I've been practicing law about 4.5 years and have considered changing career paths. (Not really interested in the practice of law... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Legally Change My Name
Hi! This is my first post here and it's a bit of an oddball question. I'm the son of immigrants who wasn't given a legal middle name at birth. I was also recently accepted into a program (which I am beyond stoked about!) and was hoping to legally give myself a middle name before matriculation; I was told it would be more difficult to do so after medical school and I just want to get it out of the way. Would this have any impact on my acceptance? I'm just afraid that my name in their database... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

avoiding court
For those of you with more legal experience or forensically-trained, any guidance on avoiding court? I work in community mental health and see a lot of kids in state custody. In my state, when kids are removed from their parents, parental rights remain intact, often for 2+ years, and parents maintain decision making around psychiatric care and major surgeries. This means that I need to have good relationships with the foster parents and bio parents, and there are often many hearings while... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Postpartum Psychosis
It is discouraging to read in news that lawyers are criticizing medicating postpartum psychosis. In my limited, anecdotal experience the cases I have seen in ED or inpatient were generally admitted on SSRI only or if on antipsychotic woefully under-dosed. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Court Case: TEE, Surgeons and Defamation
An interesting Fourth Circuit federal appellate opinion from last week that revolves around a defamation case filed by a former cardiothoracic surgery fellow against her attending. I was going to write a summary, but it is probably just as quick to read the facts from the opinion. It may be of interest here because it revolves around a TEE done by a cardiac anesthesiologist, but he does not appear to be directly involved in the defamation case or the underlying malpractice suit...
