CHF6297: a novel potent and selective p38 MAPK inhibitor with robust anti-inflammatory activity and suitable for inhaled pulmonary administration as dry powder
Inhibition of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPKs) is a potential therapeutic approach for the treatment of acute and chronic pulmonary inflammatory conditions. Here, we report the in vitro and in vivo characterization of the anti-inflammatory effects of CHF6297, a novel potent and selective p38α inhibitor designed for inhalation delivery as a dry powder formulation. CHF6297 has been proven to inhibit p38α enzymatic activity with sub-nanomolar potency (IC50 = 0.14 ± 0.06 nM), with >1,000-fold selectivity against p38γ and p38δ. In human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) stimulated with lipopolysacc...

Full-fat corn germ improves the performance and milk fat yield of Girolando cows fed sugarcane bagasse and cactus cladodes as forage sources
AbstractWe investigated the effects of replacing ground corn with full-fat corn germ (FFCG) on milk production, milk composition, and nutrient use in cows fed sugarcane bagasse and cactus cladodes. Ten multiparous Girolando cows (average body weight 500  ± 66 kg, 90 ± 15 days in milk) were distributed in a replicated 5 × 5 Latin Square and assigned to five dietary treatments containing 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, or 100% of full-fat corn germ in substitution to ground corn. Full-fat corn germ increased fat-corrected milk yield by 2.2 kg/day and the synthesis of fat, lactose, and total solids in milk by 94.4, 60.0, ...

Mo < sub > 5 < /sub > N < sub > 6 < /sub > nanosheets for fluorescent quenching and target recognition: Highly selectively sensing of sodium hexametaphosphate
Talanta. 2024 Mar 7;273:125861. doi: 10.1016/j.talanta.2024.125861. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTypical fluorescent biosensors use fluorescently labeled ssDNA for target recognition and nanomaterials for signal transduction. Herein, we propose a reverse sensing strategy that Mo5N6 nanosheets are used for target recognition while fluorescein (FAM)-labeled ssDNA only serves for signal generation. We discover that Mo5N6 nanosheets show high fluorescence quenching ability (>95%) and selective recognition for sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP). After FAM-labeled ssDNA is adsorbed on Mo5N6 nanosheets, the fluorescence is quen...

Rheological and tribological properties of native potato starch agglomerated by fluidized bed granulator
Int J Biol Macromol. 2024 Mar 3:130600. doi: 10.1016/j.ijbiomac.2024.130600. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe explored the rheological and tribological properties of potato starch agglomerated with a sugar binder (maltodextrin or lactose) at various concentrations by using a fluidized bed granulator. The magnitudes of consistency index and apparent viscosity of agglomerated potato starch (APS) decreased as the binder concentration was increased. Moreover, APS with a sugar binder showed lower viscoelastic moduli and higher tan δ values compared to APS with water as the binder (the control). The gel strength of all agglomer...

Sugar Utilization-Associated Food-Grade Selection Markers in Lactic Acid Bacteria and Yeast
Pol J Microbiol. 2024 Mar 4;73(1):3-10. doi: 10.33073/pjm-2024-011. eCollection 2024 Mar 1.ABSTRACTThis comprehensive review explores the development of food-grade selection markers in lactic acid bacteria and yeast; some of their strains are precisely defined as safe microorganisms and are crucial in the food industry. Lactic acid bacteria, known for their ability to ferment carbohydrates into lactic acid, provide essential nutrients and contribute to immune responses. With its strong fermentation capabilities and rich nutritional profile, yeast finds use in various food products. Genetic engineering in these microorganis...
