The effect of micronized progesterone and medroxyprogesterone acetate in combination with transdermal estradiol on hemostatic biomarkers in postmenopausal women diagnosed with POI and early menopause: a randomized trial
Conclusion: Fluctuations in traditional hemostatic biomarkers were not reproduced by parallel changes in thrombin generation parameters that remained neutral in both groups compared with baseline. The absence of statistically significant changes in thrombin generation for the first 3-months of hormone therapy use is reassuring and would suggest a neutral effect of both progestogens on the global coagulation assay. Prognostic value of arterial stiffness in menopausal women
This study aimed to verify the prognostic value of arterial stiffness in menopausal women. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 2,917 menopausal women (age>55y) without overt cardiovascular disease who underwent brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity measurement. The primary endpoint was a composite of clinical events, including all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction, coronary revascularization, and stroke, hereafter referred to as major adverse cardiovascular events. Propensity score matching and inverse probability-treatment weighting analysis were used to balance differences in baseline participant character...

The association of age at natural menopause with pre- to postmenopausal changes in left ventricular structure and function: the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study
Conclusion: In this study, premenopausal CVD risk factors attenuated the association of ANM with changes in LV structure parameters. These data suggest that premenopausal CVD risk factors may predispose women to elevated future CVD risk more than ovarian aging. (Source: Menopause)

Prevalence, severity, and associated factors in women in East Asia with moderate-to-severe vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause
Conclusions: Vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause affected =80% of women aged 40 to 65 years. A substantial proportion of women are unsuitable for, or choose not to take, menopausal hormone therapy, resulting in an unmet need for nonhormonal treatment options. (Source: Menopause)

The effect of music therapy on menopausal symptoms and depression: a randomized-controlled study
Conclusions: There was a significant decrease of posttest BDI scores of the women in the music group but not in the control group. Listening to music can help reduce depression levels and symptoms of menopause in postmenopausal women. Music could be used as a nonpharmacological therapeutic option in nursing care. Blood pressure control and glaucoma risk in postmenopausal women: an analysis from the Women's Health Initiative
Objective: Individuals with elevated systolic blood pressure (BP) or low diastolic BP, whether or not on antihypertensive treatment, may be at higher risk for developing glaucoma. We aimed to investigate BP levels in relation to glaucoma risk in a large cohort of postmenopausal women. Methods: Prospective follow-up of 101,447 postmenopausal women without prior history of glaucoma enrolled in the Women's Health Initiative Study. BP was measured in-clinic at baseline and after 3 years using standardized procedures. Antihypertensive medication use was determined by drug inventory at baseline and year 3. Women sel...

Avoidable bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy at hysterectomy: a large retrospective study
Objectives: Evaluate the proportion of justified bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) at hysterectomy, based on pathologic diagnosis, and determine prevalence of avoidable BSO based on pre- and intraoperative considerations and pathologic diagnosis. Methods: Retrospective review of hysterectomies at seven Ontario, Canada hospitals from 2016 to 2019. Surgeries completed by oncologists or for invasive placentation were excluded. Patient, case, and surgeon characteristics were recorded along with pathologic diagnoses. Avoidable BSO criteria were: preoperative diagnosis of cervical dysplasia or benign diagnosis oth...

Oophorectomy and rate of dementia: a prospective cohort study
Conclusions: Bilateral, but not unilateral, oophorectomy was associated with an increased rate of incident dementia. We were unable to establish whether this association was conditional on hysterectomy or HT use. Although an increase in dementia after bilateral oophorectomy is biologically plausible, limited statistical power hampers the precision of the estimates. (Source: Menopause)

Ovarian insufficiency and secondary amenorrhea in a patient with a novel variant within GDF9 gene
Conclusions: Should the predicted elongated GDF9 protein and differentially configurated GDF9 mature protein molecule form unstable dimers, rapid proteolytic degradation may take place and inhibit homo/heterodimer formation. (Source: Menopause)
