Etiology, Clinical Presentation, and Outcomes of Bacterial Meningitis in Adult Patients: A Retrospective Study in Lithuania (2018-2021)
CONCLUSIONS Clinical characteristics of community-acquired acute bacterial meningitis differ based on etiological factors. Patient age, CSF WBC count, and headache may be significant predictive factors for outcomes of bacterial meningitis.PMID:38520034 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942904 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Effect of Body Mass Index on Cecal Intubation Time During Unsedated Colonoscopy: Variation Across the Learning Stages of an Endoscopist
This study aimed to clarify the association between BMI and CIT during unsedated colonoscopy at 3 learning stages of a single endoscopist. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 1500 consecutive patients undergoing unsedated colonoscopy by 1 endoscopist at our department from December 11, 2020, to August 21, 2022, were reviewed. They were divided into 3 learning stages according to the number of colonoscopies performed by 1 endoscopist, including intermediate (501-1000 colonoscopies), experienced (1001-1500 colonoscopies), and senior stages (1501-2000 colonoscopies). Variables that significantly correlated with CIT were identifie...

Nanoparticle Augmentation of Adhesive Systems: Impact on Tensile Strength in Fiberglass Post Placement within Root Dentin
Med Sci Monit. 2024 Mar 11;30:e943502. doi: 10.12659/MSM.943502.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND Modification of the glass fiber post (GFP) with titanium dioxide or silver particles can improve the durability and reliability of dental treatments for ensuring long-term success. This research assessed the tensile bond strength (TBS) of an adhesive system used for cementing GFPs into root dentin following the incorporation of nanoparticles of titanium dioxide (NTiO2) and silver (NAg). MATERIAL AND METHODS Sixty human maxillary canines were prepared to create a 10-mm intra-radicular space for post placement from the cementoenamel junction. ...

The Impact of Home Cardiac Rehabilitation on Quality of Life and Psychological Well-Being in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease: A Randomized Controlled Study
This study aimed to investigate the effect of home cardiac rehabilitation (HCR) on patients after PCI. MATERIAL AND METHODS We randomly divided 106 patients after PCI into an Intervention group (n=52) and a Control group (n=53). Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), blood pressure, blood glucose, and low-density lipoprotein were measured in both groups before hospital discharge and after 3 months of engaging in the intervention. Patients were assessed using the short-form health survey (SF-12) scale and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scale. RESULTS After 3 months of HCR intervention, SF-12 scores of pati...

Factors Influencing the Occurrence of Intraoperative Hypothermia in Patients Undergoing General Anesthesia Intervention: A Study in a Tertiary Care Hospital
CONCLUSIONS The incidence of intraoperative hypothermia is high in patients undergoing general anesthesia interventions. Age, duration of anesthesia, set operating room temperature, and body temperature at the beginning of the operation were independent influencing factors for the occurrence of unplanned hypothermia during the perioperative period.PMID:38509664 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.943463 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)
