Trends in Hospitalization Duration for Rare Diseases: A Retrospective Analysis of Sarcoidosis, Still's Disease, and Systemic Sclerosis in Poland (2009-2018)
CONCLUSIONS The study showed that hospitalizations for selected rare diseases do not cause a significant burden on the healthcare system. The results also showed that advanced age and comorbidities are important factors determining the length of hospitalization. The average length of hospital stay for selected rare diseases in Poland is not longer than the European Union (EU) average, so it can be assumed that the process of inpatient treatment in Poland is optimal.PMID:37981760 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941536 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Enhanced Proliferation and Adhesion Marker Gene Expression in Fibroblast Cells: Evaluating the Efficacy of a Non-Surgical Treatment for Urogenital Fistula
CONCLUSIONS The mucoadhesive bilayer membrane complex with arginine+glutamine gave rise to the highest expression of the LOX and JAMs genes, indicating that the highest proliferation and cell adhesion were found in cells inoculated with the mucoadhesive bilayer membrane complex with arginine+glutamine.PMID:37978796 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.941641 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Hypothalamic Injury and Clinical Outcomes in Patients with Post-Traumatic Hyponatremia: A Diffusion Tensor Imaging Case-Control Study
CONCLUSIONS Post-traumatic hyponatremia was associated with hypothalamic injury and the presence and severity of hyponatremia were associated with poor clinical outcomes in DOC patients.PMID:37974393 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942397 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Identification of Fibrotic Biomarkers Associated with Macrophages in Diabetic Nephropathy
CONCLUSIONS Our results provided biomarkers for predicting the fibrotic progression of DN and confirmed that MMP2, CAPS3, and HIF-1alpha have good diagnostic value. They might be involved in the progression of DN fibrosis by regulating oxidative stress and macrophage recruitment or polarization.PMID:37964514 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.940847 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)

Fertility-Sparing Treatment in Gestational Choriocarcinoma: Evaluating Oncological and Obstetrical Outcomes in Young Patients
CONCLUSIONS GC is a life-threatening form of gestational trophoblastic neoplasia, mainly due to its rapid course and resistance to chemotherapy. Most patients with GC will not be able to bear children after treatment.PMID:37957930 | DOI:10.12659/MSM.942078 (Source: Medical Science Monitor)
